I don't know how many saw it, but Alito was introduced to the Judiciary Committee by fellow New Jerseans, Sen Lautenberg and (who was the former female NJ gov who served on Bush Cabinet? forgot her name...brain burp)
anyway when they were introducing Alito to the committee, she recommended Alito. Lautenberg introduced Alito, but refused to endorse him, even when Spector jokingly asked if he wouldn't like to do so.

And he didn't endorse him but his presence was a type of endorsement.
