There are 2 answers:
(1) Political Correctness
Nowadays, even as we fight Islam, or Islamofascism, for our lives, it simply is not allowable to say that something, or someone, or some "religion," is evil.
(2) Good Old American Naïveté.
I.E., Methodism is just as good as Episcopalianism, as Judaism, as Congregationalism, as Catholicism, as Islam, as Hinduism, as Bhuddism.
How many times have you heard a well-meaning fellow say; "Hell, we're all God's children ... all worshippin' the same God under different names, ain't we?" It's understandable. There's many a town in our country, and indeed throughout the Western World, where each of the above maintains a place of worship. Most of the time, we interact, live, and work with the people who attend them with minimal problems.
Because political correctness, when ruthlessly enforced as ours has been to date, takes on an inertia which is extremely difficult to overcome...
