Sounds like my Grandmas cure for what ails you. Mix elderberry juice with moonshine. Take two tablespoons until you no longer care.

These are some pretty spectacular claims. The doctor making the claims is selling products in a notoriously publicity driven market, and that market generally has little actual scientific proof for the claims made.
I hope it's real, but...
Are there any peer reviewed articles/sources to back these claims up?

Study shows Israeli elderberry extract effective against avian flu
For a second there I thought I was reading about a micacle cure form Israeli elderly. I pictured the elderly in Israel running for the hills. Then, as I read further into the article, I realized that I had to come back to re-read the beginning of the article.

"Shortly afterwards, a further randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study was conducted in Norway, where Sambucol was shown to significantly reduce the duration of flu by approximately four days." That sounds like the gold-standard of science. Would be nice to see it repeated.

Might be worth having in the house.
http://www.iherb.com/sambucol.html Natures Way had many Vitamin stores that carry their products. Don't know if they have Sambucol in the loca stores they list.

FYI. Says it increases cytikines, though. But could still work?

I don't think elderberries have to be an Israeli variety to be effective. I have read other studies that suggest that elderberries are effective against most viruses. I ran out and picked wild elderberries and made jars of jam for when we get sick (and it is wonderful just for it's taste). Next year, I want to make elderberry wine for the same reason.
Elderberries grow wild all over the country, and ripen here (California)in August through early October.

I've kept a list of all the things that have been reported to have anti-viral properties:
Star Anise
Ginseng
Sauerkraut/kinchi
Licorice
Grape juice
Cinnamon
Elder berries
