Ireland is saying no to homosexual marriage. Didn't the EU recently threaten to throw out any country that did not embrace homosexual marriage?

They did. I would love for Ireland to be evicted from the EU, one of the fastest growing European economies in a sea of dead wood.

Being Irish it always cracks me up when I hear a leftist moaning about Bush and saying they're going to move to a liberal country like, let's say, Ireland.
I point out that divorce is almost impossible to get in Ireland, and was only legalized about 10 years ago. Abortion in NOT legal in Ireland and good luck finding Playboy over there. Believe me.

Ireland isn't in the EU. They didn't want the Continent dragging down its economy.

Didn't the EU recently threaten to throw out any country that did not embrace homosexual marriage? I never quite understood why any nation would want to be a member of the EU in the first place.

"The system would limit same-sex couples to registered partnerships, since it would not be possible to assume two men or women living together were homosexual."
But of course it is possible; no less than the APA states that sexual orientation is not determined by sexual behavior.

Believe it or not the "Modern Conservative" Nations of the world (Meaning we allow women to wear what they want, and dont kill them without penalty etc...) The most Conservative of the Modern nations are said to be the US, Ireland Italy and Poland.
Scary thought.

Didn't the EU recently threaten to throw out any country that did not embrace homosexual marriage? They are certainly putting a lot of pressure on us to liberalize gay marriage. The reason gay marriage was rejected is because the Taoiseach (prime minister) said that a referendum on gay marriage would never pass, which is wholly correct.
Thankfully, the EU constitution was rejected, otherwise EU law would supersede all Irish law and then there would be no question of legalizing gay marriage. Anyway, the EU is now trying to introduce the important bits of their wretched constitution without the inconvenience of a democratic mandate.

I stand corrected. I took Ireland's stand against the EU Constitution as meaning it was not going to join.
