(Washington - AP) — US Senator Jim Jeffords says he will oppose the nomination of Samuel Alito to the US Supreme Court.

Jeffords says that while he believes Alito is qualified to serve on the court, he does not believe the country would be served by his judicial philosophy.

The independent senator says that he does not believe Alito fully appreciates the limits on the power of the presidency.

What is your take on the overall intelligence of VT people? Don't they claim to be the smartest state in the Union?

They are...just ask any of them. They STILL bash people, especially Southerners, for their stupidity re: 2000/2004 election results.

"Jeffords says that while he believes Alito is qualified to serve on the court, he does not believe the country would be served by his judicial philosophy."

"The independent senator says that he does not believe Alito fully appreciates the limits on the power of the presidency."

Hysterically funny yet profoundly sad. The DemocRATS are so far gone into their leftist delusions of grander that they no longer even have the capacity to discern the depth and breadth of their own hypocrisy.

By the way. If anyone out there actually believes that Judas Jeffords is really an independent; I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell them.

Since being elected to the Senate in 1988, Jeffords has received favorable ratings from the Human Rights Campaign, a Washington DC-based gay advocacy group. He also received a National Leadership Award from AIDS Action and cosponsors the Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), a bill to outlaw employment discrimination based on sexual orientation. Although he supports Vermont's civil union law enacted in 2000, Jeffords voted for the antigay Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) in 1996. .............. Gay activists were quick to praise Vermont's retiring senator. "Senator Jeffords has been a strong advocate for equality and will truly be missed," Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese said. "Through the years, the Senator has stood on the side of fairness for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans. ......... While the race to replace Jeffords began shortly after his announcement, Vermont's gay and lesbian community is left wondering whether he'll be replaced by an equally pro gay legislator.

Jeffords was preceded by the staunch GOP liberal Robert Stafford, and he will be followed by the socialist Democrat Bernard Sanders. VT is not moving "to the right."

You might be right, but isn't Collins as liberal as Snowe?

I don't think Beck's music is CIA material. They'll probably pass it along to the NSA and FBI. Just pay no attention to the black helicopter above your home, the man reading your meter, or the DSL representative that mysteriously appears at your front door offering incredible savings.

Isn't that all that is required in "advise and consent?" Sounds like he blatantly showed the libs' hand... well, not like it wasn't there for all of us to see....

Technically, Collins is about .003 more conservative than Snowe, but they do "moderate" the ultraliberalism of ME people.

Well, probably. That's because an enormous portion of the current Vermont population has moved there from that bastion of certitude, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. A place where not tax is too big(kinda like Sen. Kennedy's trousers).

Interestingly, in 1795, it was said that the literacy rate of New England was somewhere around 95%. AH, Puritan guilt can be a great motivator! I would guess that the literacy rate in ole New England is a mite less than 95% today.

Vermont and intelligence? Well, just take a look at who it biggest pols are. It seems that libs are most pleased with themselves when they are being deliberately obtuse and question positively everything. They delight, apparently, in parsing everything to distraction.

Soon the state slogan in Vermont will read thusly: "Words are precious, action is cheap."

I rest my case, your honor.
