January 25, 2006 -- WASHINGTON Most American voters now say there's no way they'd vote for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton if she runs for president in 2008 while just 16 percent are firmly in her camp, a stunning new poll shows. The Gallup/CNN poll found that 51 percent say they definitely won't vote for Clinton (D-N.Y.) in 2008, another 32 percent might consider it, and only 16 percent vow to back her.
That means committed anti-Hillary voters outnumber pro-Hillary voters by 3-1.
Men are especially anti-Clinton 60 percent say there's no way they'd back her for commander-in-chief, and that rises to 62 percent among men 50 and over.
Among women, 22 percent say they'd definitely vote for Clinton, but just 11 percent of men agree. Her support is also lower among whites 14 percent are committed supporters, compared with 28 percent of nonwhites.
Even among self-proclaimed liberals, just 33 percent say they'd definitely vote for her.
The poll suggests she can forget about crossover votes 90 percent of Republicans and 75 percent of conservatives say there's no way they'd back her.
Clinton's spokesman, Philippe Reines, brushed off all questions about 2008 polls, good and bad, saying Clinton "remains focused on being the best senator she can for New York."

They must be lying...no one who has ever thought of themselves as a conservative could ever vote for that pants suit.
Those pictured here were the kind of people that hung out at campgrounds in large sexually ambiguous groups, smoking weird stuff, never combing their hair, doing odd things to each other in public and harassing the nice park ranger.
Come to think of it, they still scare me.
Looks like I'm voting for the hildebeast in the primaries. If I can stand it. (shiver!!!!)
Now all we have to hope for is that she gets the nomination. :)
This is a shame.
If poll numbers stay like this, she may not get the nomination.
The Republicans might just have to face a real opponent.
I busted one of these liars once, to her face. She was (now deceased) a local, vocal hysterical democrat who wrote almost a letter a week to the local paper (Regan bashing). When moveon.org got started, she signed the petition on the site, using her real name and town, adding, "I've been a Republican since high school, but I can't believe what they're doing to our [wonderful] president clinton...etc." I saw her at a meeting, said i saw her petition signature and comments and asked her when she switched parties. She blustered, blushed and changed the subject. Liar.
early polls are generally meaningless BUT it does solidify the fact there is a definit perception (based on reality) the democrat party is NOT the place to represent straight men.
They are the ones that smoke copious amounts of crack.
"The real big negative stuff is not her baggage or her scandals it is Hillary Clinton herself. She is extremely mean, extremely nasty, extremely arrogant, extremely non charismatic, and extremely liberal. No matter what she does to fake it and no matter how the media try to protect her, the majority of real voters would have realize this about her long time before election day 2008. In fact 50% of them already know and 20% are well underway to know this about her. And no, Hillary Clinton is not Bill Clinton, he is vastly more charismatic, he is much less mean, and he appears much less liberal."
