I wonder if the population of Hershey, PA exploded last August.

I guess he just doesn't want white folks moving into his town.

I wonder how long it will be his town?

When are the next mayoral elections in New Orleans? Anybody know?

I can't help thinking that Nagin's remark is hugely insulting to black people. I mean, what if Gavin Newsom (mayor of San Francisco) were to call SF a "Tutti-Fruiti" City? I think that even the gays who parade around in leather thongs on Pride Day would object to that. But it's not really so different from Nagin's comment. And it's similar to Hillary's plantation remark in that it makes unwarrented assumptions about the target audience. Both Nagin and Hillary spoke as if the entire population of African-Americans were all as color conscious as they obviously are.

As dumb as his chocolate comment was, Nagin at least has roots in the kind of culture that might say this sort of thing. But Hillary was merely pandering, and any black person who heard her would have to conclude that she's just a racist.

The elections are supposed to be in February, but they moved them back, and Nagin is sweating! I actually voted for him the first time round...he was cool back then...

And then there are T-shirts that feature Nagin as Willy Wonka.

---For Ray Nagin to compare himself with Gene Wilders classic role as the original Willie Wonka is sickening. Willie Wonka (the character) loved people, shared his fortune, encouraged good deeds by children, etc. and Nagin is an embezzling, lying, racist who doesn't deserve to to be glorified in a T-shirt. It is playing right up his alley. I think the bastard gets a nut off of ruffling peoples' feathers. JMHO

I guess he just doesn't want white folks moving into his town. He does not want diversity. He wants it to be the way it was before the hurricane.

He wants votes, period. He knows who his voters are. The only ones he can count on now are the dead ones.

How would you like to be a Rainbow Sherbet in a Chocolate town?

They already have that, or at least many shades of chocolate, from white to dark.

I received a cartoon in my email today of the Super Dome and the new roof was a Hershey's Kiss. along with this letter 1/17/06
"THE VANILLA GORILLA'

Mr. Mayor,

Let me start by saying that I am a 41-year-old vanilla male.

I supported you prior to the hurricane that "GOD" sent at us (your words), and even supported you in your efforts after. But now, you have reached down and grabbed the "race card" and want to proclaim that New Orleans be a "Chocolate New Orleans"!!!

If you were a white man/mayor and made the opposite remarks that the city needed to be a "White New Orleans", you would have had every liberal media outlet, the NAACP, Jesse Jackson, etc.here, to serve your head on a silver platter. You would be stripped of your political duties and reduced to a racist pig and kicked out of town.

Luckily for you, you're "chocolate".

"GOD is mad at us for being in Iraq"??? "That's why GOD sent hurricane after hurricane to us"??? At what point in time did you become a spokesman for GOD? Prior to the hurricane, New Orleans had terrible crime, housing, cleanliness, and education problems. Is that GOD's fault? Why would you say such things? Are you trying to alienate us from Washington/Congress, and the rest of the nation, at a time when we are in need of much help to rebuild? I think you've finally lost your mind and should consider resigning!

But let's first take a look at your "Chocolate City".

Check the stats, the majority of crime comes from the "chocolate factory". The majority of welfare goes, to the "chocolate factory". The majority of dilapidated, filthy housing is owned or inhabited by the "chocolate factory". The poor public education system is run by and inhabited by the "chocolate factory". Just look at all of the "chocolate city" public housing eyesores. You want a "chocolate city", just look at the 2nd line party-shootout where 3 people were injured, that was all chocolate, no white milk in that neighborhood. And you called the shooters "knuckleheads"? How about CRIMINALS!

And wasn't that supposed to be a welcome back parade???

Who do you think fills the majority of restaurants, hotels, conventions, or even the Superdome on Sundays, chocolates-nope! And 30-40 years ago, New Orleans was not a black majority city. But since then, we've had four "chocolate" mayors, and this city has been spiraling down the tubes ever since!

This city is my city. I was born at Touro Hospital. Even though I now reside in Jefferson, when I visit other places and someone asks me where I'm from, I tell them "New Orleans"! But this city of mine has continued to elect "chocolate politicians" over intelligent, well-minded leaders. New Orleans, and the so-called leaders in the political arena, continue to keep giving itself and us, a black eye. Corruption and "reverse racism" has plagued this city for far too long. But now, the Sleeping Giant has been awoken, and he's not happy!

Mr. Mayor, you could've taken this challenge, said the right things, done the right things, and been a real beacon of light for this desperate city. Hell, you could've done so well that you could've run for governor, or even President, and won, if you had done the right things. You and the city could've come out on top, and I would've applauded you for doing a terrific job during difficult times.

But, lo and behold, you have stooped down, as mayors past, and given us (New Orleans), another black/chocolate eye! What a shame, what a shame!

W.C.

AKA-The Vanilla Gorilla

Well, if NO runs him off, he can always run for mayor of DC.

Rename Canal St. the Hershey Highway and you'll bring the gay tourists back, black and white (they're not too picky).

Perhaps you'll be comforted to know that those very words will be on his epitaph. Particularly his political epitaph. There has been massive outcry in the form of response to newspapers and media where people have been raving in anger over this. You just might not be seeing it on the LSM, they have to protect their Dims regardless.

I think it's justice that he's linked to these words forever. The T-Shirts are great, effectively making him a "bad joke". Imagine how he'll do in the private sector when those same people protest his presence in a privately held company? Work for McDonalds? Boycott! Developer? Protest! Charity? Deny them!

This will follow him anywhere he goes, and will have more of an impact than Katrina for the racist POS that he is.

Nagin should be kicked out of office, all offices. His inane comments inspire jokes by many. I wish I could laugh. I'd be better off.

My reaction is to be outraged. When incompetent, stupid people can get elected to the mayorship of any city, I have to roll my eyes in amazement.

A past Philadelphia mayor, Rizzo, was known to be tough. I can only imagine the riots that would have followed him saying that he wanted a "vanilla city".

Yes, it would be seen as a racist remark and Naglin's is no different.

Naglin's pathetic explanation falls far short of an apology. But who cares? We know what he thinks.
