Steady State for Bush Approval Continues
Gallup ^ | January 24, 2006 | Jeffrey M. Jones

PRINCETON, NJ -- A new CNN/USA Today/Gallup poll finds continued stability in public opinion about President George W. Bush, as his 43% job approval rating has not wavered in over a month's worth of polling. Likewise, Bush's approval ratings for his handling of specific issues also show little change when compared to Gallup's most recent readings. Of the seven issues tested, Bush is rated most positively for his handling of terrorism, and lowest for his handling of immigration.

Which means it's really 53% and going up another 2 points every week.

I see the sample, once again, is described as adults. Nothing about whether they or registered or likely voters.

But you get what you poll for, eh Gallup?

"These results are based on telephone interviews with a randomly selected national sample of 1,006 adults, aged 18 and older, conducted Jan. 20-22. "

Just average joe blows? Those who are coherent enough to talk? Cabrones who happen to habla Englis? Those who have limp wrists? Those who smell bad? What kind of adults are we reading about here?

Of the seven issues tested, Bush is rated most positively for his handling of terrorism, and lowest for his handling of immigration.

This is the key. A lot of his negatives are from conservatives, which means if the poll were a re-election poll, the thumbs up numbers would be much higher.

Heck, I read the article. These adults must be the same ones they called for years. For whatever reason.

Rasmussen has also been very flat (stable around 44%) and I trust Rasmussen a lot more than Gallup.

If those adults are anything like me, they are worn out with made up crises and false scandals. I am tuning out.

KEY STAT FROM THIS POLL:

The President continues to receive an unprecedented level of support from his base: 87% of Republicans approve of the President's job performance!

The fact that Gallup and the rest of the MSM pollsters insist on oversampling Democrats/Democrat-leaning Independents is the only reason the President's overall JA remains in the 40s. [NOTE: Gallup's oversampling has become so blatant that it no longer publishes the demographic composition of its sample, e.g., the party affiliation of its respondents!]

And the MSM wonders why Democrats continue to 'win' the polls but LOSE the elections!

I'm sure that's true. As antidotal evidence I offer the strongly disapprove rating I gave Bush last night in a computerized telephone poll. Until he starts enforcing the borders he won't get anything different from me.

Bush is rated most positively for his handling of terrorism, and lowest for his handling of immigration.

This means his loss of popularity has almost entirely come from the right. A strong statement on securing the borders in the SOTU, with meaningful followup, will fix this problem big time for the '06 elections. I hope the einsteins in the party hierarchy get the message here. It's just too F*ing simple for them to ignore.
