It's the American dream -- buying a home for your family. And now you don't have to be in the country legally to own one.
Wells Fargo is first major California lender to offer home loans to illegal immigrants, 10News reported.
"We're not required to ask the immigration status of any of our customers. That is the responsibility of the federal government," Wells Fargo bank representative Jerry Ruiz said.
The program is called "Celebrate Home" and Wells Fargo says it complies with all federal regulations, 10News reported.
Applicants do need a tax identification number issued by the Internal Revenue Service for people who do not have Social Security numbers.
Ruiz said the program is targeted to Wells Fargo customers who have been an account holder for at least six months and who can show proof of residency for two years in the United States -- along with proof that they have filed and reported income taxes using an individual taxpayer identification number.
There are an estimated 10 to 12 million illegal workers in the United States.
Critics say even though the program is legal, it sends the wrong message.
"Any time you have a bank institution lending money to help people buy homes when they're not even allowed to be in the country, it is something that runs contrary to the law. It aids and abets people who are breaking the law," said Ira Melman of the Federation of Immigration Reform.
A bill is being introduced in Congress that would make it illegal to issue loans to illegal immigrants, according to 10News.
What you talkin bout, this?

First off your partisan tone leads me to believe that you would be screaming bloody murder if such a law was passed. But it's not necessary. Answer me this question: Is it a crime to offer a loan to a known illegal alien? I think you know the answer is yes. How is Wells Fargo getting around this? With a don't ask, don't tell policy? And you think that's ok? Are you out of your mind? Just because Wells Fargo is abrogating their fiduciary and legal duties to make a few bucks off the backs of illegals doesn't mean it's legal or right. And what about illegals buying property that might have gone to a LEGAL American? Apparently you have no problem with that? Just buying the property Americans don't want to buy hunh? You're not only stupid, you're dead wrong.
If Congress passed a law today and Bush signed it tomorrow outlawing home loans to illegal aliens, then I would be against Wells Fargo providing home loans to illegal aliens - it's as simple as that
Congress already has a law that says you will not be in this country illlegally. Is there some part of illegal that you don't understand or are you thick. These people are not even supposed to be here let alone buying houses. Somewhere along the line you jumped on the illegal bandwagon. Your rhetoric is getting old. Sounds and awful lot like you might be swampsticks (bayourods) ghost.
If you leave Well's Fargo make sure you let them know the reason...that they're supporting illegals. I did.
What you talkin bout, this?
Sheeeessshhh look at the heads on that bunch!!!!
Spread the word about Wells-Fargo. They lost my business.
Until someone proves Wells Fargo's program does not meets all federal guidelines, I will assume it is legal. We don't force banks to make sure drug dealers are not running meth labs out of their homes before processing loans. Homes brought by other illegals are "taken away" from upstanding American citizens like yourself, I'm sure. As a recent homepurchaser, I do not want anything legally increasing home values to be impacted, to be honest with you.
For the final time, a boycott is certainly your prerogative - but I'm sure they will more than make up for your business with the 19 million illegal immigrants in the country, not to mention the growing LEGAL Hispanic population that would rather bank at Wells Fargo than your bank with a separate line and identification process (maybe fingerprinting and strip searches) of everyone who is not lilly white.
I don't think he's as good as ole "swampsticks".
LMFAO! I never heard bayourod called that before!

I do believe that clawrence3 is an illegal alien sympathizer. See the following 2 posts from another thread.
[...] You most definitely supported rewarding all that illegal behavior. Anybody you know benefit from that [1986] amnesty? relatives?

Nope - my Mexican-born mother actually became a U.S. citizen before that - that being said, I really see no special reason to target otherwise law-abiding immigrants, especially if it's going to cost more than it would save in social services, etc.

You also never answered my first question to you: "What 'form' of treason could it be if it is COMPLETELY legal?!"
That's fine.
Then we as taxpayers have no obligation to pay ANY bailout when you and your cronies go bust giving out loans to Illegal Infiltrators, and the next S&L scandal will be all YOUR fault! When "We The People" finally water the "Tree of Liberty", and the OBL-ers are removed, it will then be on the heads of these Anti-American types when retribution comes.
But, you see...we DO have a solution... + *
* Some assembly required
Wells fargo should be treated the same as a cayote smuggler.
Those houses are loan payments are USED BY LAWYERS in the petitions to obtain the "free pass" and contacts for waivers etc.
Remember we have ROLLING AMNESTY now, hide for 10 years and you get a green card. (really) You just have to show contacts and responsibility.
Banks should be required to collect the immigration status.
The fact that my Mexican-born mother is now a U.S. citizen and I really see no special reason to target otherwise law-abiding immigrants, especially if it's going to cost more than it would save in social services, etc. makes me "an illegal alien sympathizer" as opposed to, oh you know, an honest hard-working American who does not want his government spending my money ineffectively?
I quit them and told them why. Pointed to the little sticker that boasted they accept the phony ID's and told thtem "close my account, gimme my money."
You...

Answer.
Well well well. Race Card. First, last and only thing you have to play.
I included my text in this post so everyone here will plainly see how thin (transparent) your statements are. I clearly stated my reason for closing my Wells Fargo Account was because they accepted a phony form of ID issued by representatives of a foreign government.
There is nothing in my statement regarding race.
Your response is based only on race. If a "LEGAL Hispanic" wants to use a bank's services they do not need a M.C. card, they have plenty of LEGAL ID.
Since your response is primarily based upon race I can only conclude that it is representative of your day to day thought processes, therefore you appear to be a racist.
I will be happy to continue answering your questions once you return the same courtesy.
