UHMM...I really wouldn't put Will & Grace and West Wing into the same category. They were WILDLY successful shows. They just ran their natural course.

"I really wouldn't put Will & Grace and West Wing into the same category. They were WILDLY successful shows. They just ran their natural course." By whose definition were they WILDLY successful? I'll admit I watched West Wing a time or two near the beginning of the series (and even once or twice, I watched Will & Grace before the prancing and lisping became so pronounced) but in recent years the only time either show has been on my television screen was when I was channel surfing.
I'd also like to point out that there's an old adage about 'Three Kinds of Lies' - first is that there are Lies, second is that there are D*mn Lies, and third is that there are Statistics. I am inherently distrustful of any survey but especially those produced by the Left that tell he how truly great and wonderful the programs like the Book of Daniel, West Wing, and Will & Grace are.
Bottom line, I too am glad they're gone (or that they soon will be)...

They were early on. After September 11, the West Wing's popularity went straight to hell, when they tried to stick to the same tired, non-judgemental liberal format. It wheezed along ever since then. It's among the lowest rated shows on network tv now.
Will and Grace ran it's course, but couldn't get made again on network tv. People are getting tired of having queer-this and queer-that smashed in their faces. The L word and Queer as Folk thrive because they're on cable. Brokeback made decent money.....in Blue states. America is not homo-hating. America IS homo-irritated.

You are right. It's just that they open things up for something else.
Not that it will be anything I watch, but apparently I am no longer part of an important target audience. Nor are my children. Or my parents.
So, pretty much, we buy dvds of classic movies and television.
