Canadians awarded Conservative Leader Stephen Harper with a minority government Monday, putting an end to more than 12 years of Liberal rule.
Polls across the country are now closed and results are pouring in.
As of 12:10 a.m. ET, the Conservatives were in a commanding lead with 125 seats, compared to 102 for the second place Liberals.
But prime minister designate Harper will be denied the 155 seats he will need to lead a Tory majority.
In a concession speech in front of a roomful of cheering party faithful in Montreal, Liberal Leader Paul Martin said: "There will be another chance and there will be another time."
But that next chance won't come under his leadership, as Martin has announced he will step down as Liberal Leader.
Martin said he had called Harper on the phone to congratulate him.
The Bloc Quebecois has won 50 seats, while the NDP currently sits at 30.
Support for the Tories took off when the polls closed west of Atlantic Canada.
As expected, the Conservatives dominated in the West, taking most seats in the Prairies and sweeping all 28 seats in Alberta.
Public Safety Minister Anne McLellan could not hold on to Alberta's lone Liberal seat in Edmonton Centre. She was defeated by Tory Laurie Hawn, a former fighter pilot.
But it was in battleground Ontario where the Conservatives made a big breakthrough, with most of the polls showing they're on track to take a dozen or more seats than the 24 they won in 2004.

My best Dave Chapelle impression,

IT BURNS DON`T IT !?..... IT REALLY HURTS.....
IN YOUR FACE "

Next thing you know, cats will rain from the sky and flaming monkeys will invade Chappaqua.
Maybe there IS hope for Canada.
And from what I've seen, this Harper is the real deal, not some fuzzy moderate. Of course Canadian politics are different, but this guy seems like someone most American Freepers would like on our side!
Apparently, Canada has the same red/blue thing going up there...sort of, anyway.
"This is about as good as it gets. As a bonus, Michael Moore is deeply saddened."
OH yeah baby! Where they gonna run to now? Venezuela? BAHAHAHAHAHA!
What the hell does that mean? Is this a children's rant when he/she can't get a cookie from the family dog?
"A fiscal conservative (and an economist, so he actually understands why its important)"
to me, "fiscal conservative" means get rid of the socialist health care MONSTER that is KILLING poor canadians!!!!!!
does this guy plan to do that?
Harper is ultraconservative. He tried to moved to the centre and guess what?
Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal: Go away Harper!
Harper should show his true colour and tell the 416 and 905 to go to hell.
define "ultraconservative"
All those poor actors and singers...now they've got nowhere else to go (except maybe North Korea or Cuba).
Politics is the art of the possible -- so I'm not expecting drastic changes. There will be more private clinics allowed -- which might not seem like much, but it is a big step. There will also be shorter wait lists -- and more freedom to travel to other provinces for operations etc.
There's only so much that can be done with a minority government -- especially when the government is stacked with Liberal appointees, and there is a huge network of vested interest groups connected to the Liberals, and addicted to the existing programs.
Consider the difficulty that Bush is having in reforming Social Security -- multiply that by ten.
BAHAHAHAHAHA!

No, It's a gloating piss happy laugh at the expense of liberal jack asses that thought going to Canada somehow spared them from the evil Booosh and the dreaded NeoCons.
Clear enough I thought.
Ok. Thank you.
That's just disturbing.
