I don't they think dare

And just who would they anger if they dared. I can just see Katie Couric saying on the today show... how those rotten dirty Democrats prevented the Supreme court from going conservative. Just imagine how irate Wolfe Blitzer would be if Alito is successfully filibustered. Can you imagine the New York Times editorials.. Would the times be mad at those nasty Democrats who filibustered Alito.

They would have a ticker tape parade for the Democrats that stopped Alito!

There would be giant headlines stating that the minority Democrats had handed George Bush a giant defeat. Can you picture the words LAME DUCK in foot high headlines?

The media and the Democrats have convinced the right that Alito has his confirmation in the bag. Everyone on the right has gone home to celebrate their great victory...

Who told us we were going to win? Why the Democrats and the media .. that's who. And some of us have believed them. Do you really think the Democrats will give up with out trying every tactic and strategy available to them? I don't.

Democrats don't surrender before the final battle.. only Republicans do that!

Reuters just posted a cnn poll. 54 percent of Americans back the confirmation of Judge Alito.

We have come full circle from the days of liberals whining about litmus tests for judges.

If Alito is the test case, Frist has the 50 votes for the nuclear option.

I think he may have them now.. He did not have them a year ago.

The Democrats have no fear of the Nuclear option. Imagine if the Democrats go belly up fearing the Nuclear option only to have Frist pull the nuclear option on a bunch of Bush apellate court justices later in the year.

It seems clear that Bush has made a deal with Lott. Bush obviously agreed to back Lott for Majority leader in 2007. That likely means Frist has the nuclear option and can make it work in 2006.

If there are two for Democrats ... Alito confirmed by nuclear option or Alito confirmed by Democrats backing off, why would the Democrats not make Frist use the Nuclear option?

If the Democrats allow Alito to be confirmed a large portion of the Democratic base will be very ticked at the Democratic Senators. Reid will get a ton of hate mail from Democrats. If Democrats force Frist to use the Nuclear option then lots of Democrats will be angry with Bush, Frist, and Alito and will know that Reid and his Democrats did all they could.

If Reids choice is a base ready to scalp him or a base ready to scalp Bush.. which way do you think Reid will go?

The politicization has been one-sided. The failure of the Republicans to stand up for principle when voting for or against nominees to SCOTUS is appalling and has led to the likes of Breyer and Ginsburg on the Court. Every Republican Senator who mouthed their belief that the Constitution should be interpreted as written and as understood by the people at the time of the ratification of the various provisions who voted in favor of either Breyer or Ginsburg violated not only their promises to the people who voted them into office but also to their oath to uphold the Constitution.

But what would they actually do about it, that would affect the Dems' political fortunes?

it IS taking forever, especially considering that his confirmation is essentially a given, considering the current population of the Senate.
