Can't speak for anyone else, but you're exactly right. I'm not a conservative.

Glad to hear you say it. Just wish the rest would.

I must admit, my libertarian side is coming out on this issue. Wasn't the big gripe about the Patriot act was that the government would start a 'slippery slope' and not only use the Patriot Act for terrorist activity but other activity not having anything to do with terrorism.

Mine too.

It comes with a donation to the RNC.

But not with a donation to Republican candidates, obviously.

Well, I took AP English all four years of high school.

Surprisingly, I actually remember some of it.

If you think that stupid card that the fundrasing arm of the RNC sends you for coughing up $25 every year has any meaning at all, whatsoever, then I have an inheritance in Nigeria for you.

And the fact that had Roberts and Alito been on the court, Kelo would have been deep-six'ed.

Doubt it ... O'Connor and Scalia were in the minority. Kennedy was the swing vote, and he went the wrong way.

The most vital is "Limited Government". Many of us have given up on the GOP with just this one single point.

You nailed it!!

The GOP will go down in flames in 06 and will lose the White House in 08 because they have made a mockery of "Limited Government", so much so that we can not even afford to fund military R&D and major weapon systems anymore.

I doubt it. The masses vote pocketbook first, and at least one poll shows a significant majority of Americans (moreso GOP than DEM) will give the government more power to encroach personal liberty, given the justification of protection from terrorism violence.

As an aside, I wonder why draw the privacy line there? Why not intrude to limit all violence? A child is just as dead if its mother or father kills it, as if Osama does.

The specific "loss of civil rights" issue now in the air is the NSA/electronic surveillance issue. I think that will play-out to the GOP favor. "We're at war" doncha know.

SampleMan, outstanding reply!

I have been attempting in vain to convince many of the more hard-headed types around here that refusing to support Republicans helps elect Democrats for quite some time. Many people, including otherwise intelligent FReepers, can not seem to grasp the reality of how a two-party system works.

Mr. Hammer - Do you suppose you should support the most conservative party and/or candidate who can win elections? Otherwise you can support a fringer and help elect liberals. Your call.

It takes a village of "Real Conservatives" to elect HRC as President.

Indeed. I asked him what part of his "rant" he was unaware of when he voted for Bush in '04. No response.

You've spammed about 4-5 threads with this same letter. It's doubtful you're a conservative; probably a sleeper troll trying to get conservatives mad at the RNC.

The Katrina bit gave you away; there's not a conservative alive I know that is mad at the feds for the Katrina disaster. Most of us know darned well it was an unresponsive city and state response which made the crisis much, much worse.

"". I will however support the Republican Party against a grave threat to our nation called the demoncrat party""
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>..........
Seems many support GOP out of fear of Dems, no matter how the GOP has acted on OPEN BORDERS and Illegals, Big Spending, Non reaction to KELO and property rights, the time has come to stop supporting a Party that is so out of step with most of us..Reform can only come when the GOP sees it has lost it's base..any idea how that can be done with out withholding money, and votes??

Glad to hear you say it.

And I'm glad that I said it, for I find conservatives to be weak. Very weak. I've weighed conservatism in the balance, and found it wanting.

And where is the locked down definition of the term "conservative?" Surely we on the Right can do better.

This is a ch__ch. What's missing?

The president ran as a moderate. I'm always shocked when people say they don't know that. But when he first came to our town, I almost didn't go because I'm really not interested in moderates. Typically.

Not that the president is perfect, but anyone who didn't know what they were getting when they pulled the lever for Bush wasn't paying attention.
