Hundreds of Prince George's residents packed an Upper Marlboro church yesterday to warn county officials that they are fed up with increasing crime and want some relief.
"We are pushing not because we are antagonizing, but because we are terrified," said the Rev. C. Anthony Muse, one of the organizers of the meeting.
In 2005, Prince George's tallied 173 homicides, a record for the county. Additionally, sexual assaults increased by 3 percent, robberies by 24 percent and carjackings by 45 percent from the previous year.
Residents and a few county officials painted a grim picture of some streets and school halls, where criminals and unruly teens often have more control than law enforcement and principals.
"If you walk into almost any school, you will see things that shock you," said State's Attorney Glenn F. Ivey, a panel member at the forum. "You've got kids cussing each other out, parents cussing out teachers, teachers are getting stay-away orders for parents."
The "War on Crime" countywide town hall meeting was held at the Riverdale Baptist Church. Many in the crowd, estimated at 1,000 by the organizers, had been touched personally by crime.

My car was stolen in Prince George's County almost a year ago. The only response we ever received from the PG County Police was when they sent us a letter informing us of where we could pick-up the burned out hulk of our car.
It took a month to get them to come pick up the other stolen car that the punks can dump off before stealing my car.
If you ever have to steal a car, go to Price George's County, Maryland. They won't even try to catch you.
War on crime? Ah!
They do not want us to exercise our second amendment, so they ask satanic authorities to take over their lives. They themselves have slept with criminals and terrorists and are responsible for this situation. The government obliges of course, but it will be a criminal one without checks and balances.
War on crime? This has got to be a joke. They are paying a government to hide their relationships with criminals, they are not fighting crime. Crime will remain, with a tacitly complying government in such hiding of abortions and crime friendships. Good tax payers will be exploited by the government to hide these crimes, and such will be forbidden to carry firearms to oppose in organized fashion this exploitation done by the police gov-welfare tie. This is evil.
Everyone who can get out of PG is looking for houses in Rockville & Silver Spring.
Sounds like Detroit, circa 1965.
I worked in PG County for many years. I now live in New Mexico and am glad I had the opportunity to leave.

Absolutely LOVE New Mexico...especially Santa Fe and Taos.
The ones complaining the most about crime will be the ones organizing the riots when the police actually shoot one of their little darlings while stopping a robbery
this is liberalism.
Liberalism in power is always corrupt becsuse to do anything one has to go through a government agency . One must influence bureaucrats and politicians to get anything or do anything.
Actually a minority of people in the Wild West were armed but the potential that any given intended victim might be armed was a great deterrent. Same thing happens in CCW states today. If all newspapers would print all the bad-guy-gets shot news items from around the country every day, there would be further decrease in violent crimes.
"Sounds like Detroit, circa 1965."
Detroit was still a decent place to live in 65.....the seachange worth noting was the summer of 67....its been downhill ever since then, in every way.
Those are both true Blue, liberal places to live in. How do you stand it?
I don't live there. I just love going there. :)

I guess one has to be a local to even know where this city, town, state, or country is.
Well, I guess that just makes my comment that the media's portrayal of the old west that much more valid. Would you put the numbers pretty close to the numbers in CCW states now?
