COSTA MESA, Calif. (AP) - Police have arrested a man accused of using his car to run down another man in an Orange County parking lot, leaving the victim in critical condition.
Morteza Bakhtiari, 26, was arrested at his home in Costa Mesa late Friday, said Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino.
Bakhtiari was being held on suspicion of attempted murder after allegedly using his BMW to ram 41-year-old John Royston and then drive off, said Amormino. Bail was set at $1 million.
Royston, a loan officer, was in critical condition at Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo.
According to police, Royston and two friends left a restaurant at the Aliso Viejo Town Center late Thursday when they saw a car speeding through the parking lot.
Royston and his friends called out to the man and asked him to slow down, said Amormino.
Instead, the driver collided with a parked car and then allegedly turned around and drove toward the three men.
"The victim asked him a second time to slow down, and that's when he was run down," Amormino said. "There's no question that it was intentional. This was not an accident."

We're back. Thanks for your remark , btw, I noticed that as well.
The driver is a 26 year old, curious if he is a citizen of the US or?? With an all-american name like Morteza Bakhtiari.
I guess that makes me xenophobic, huh? ;-)

The name is Iranian.
I had alot of problems with so called "Iranian students"
that moved into our apartment complex in the late sixties.
Instead of going to school, they spent their time trying to get rid of the shah and putting that criminal mullah in charge of Iran.

Fox News Channel anchor Shepard Smith was arrested by Florida police in November 2000 and charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle after arguing with another reporter over a parking space (both were covering the Bush-Gore Florida vote debacle).
How did Smith get off so easy? (I still haven't forgotten his anti-gun tirade post-Columbine.)

Amazing. An actual person is being held responsible instead of the vehicle.
