Movie. The stirring story of the courageous passengers on hijacked United Airlines Flight 93 who fought back against the terrorists on 9/11, preventing a probable attack on Washington, D.C. This heart-pounding film includes the extraordinary communications that took place between the passengers and their loved ones on the ground, and between U.S. military and government officials as they prepared to shoot the plane down, if necessary. The passengers' actions prevented the plane from becoming a guided missile that could have destroyed the U.S. Capitol or the White House. Stars Jeffrey Nordling, Ty Olsson, Colin Glazer and Brennan Elliott. (2005)
I think this was on the Discovery Channel a few months ago and I taped it. It's really moving.
According to the movie "Flight Plan" it's only air crews and Federal Air Marshals that we have to worry about. The total disconnect between Hollywood and reality reflects the enemy within that deserves none of our money.

bump
I can't help wondering if this is the same movie that was aired mid 2005...
On a related note: does anybody know if the crescent design for the memorial has been scrapped? I haven't heard anything about it lately.
I wonder if we will ever know whether the target was The Capitol or The White House.
No - it is not the same movie. In mid 2005 Discovery put out The Flight That Fought Back...narrated by Keifer Sutherland.
This is A&E TV's interpretation.
In April(I believe) Universal Pictures will be coming out with a movie about Flight 93.
I hope this clears things up.

Chris, have you heard anything further about the design for the memorial? There was talk of redesigning the crescent specifically.
The last I heard a few months ago, it has been scrapped.
This one is different. The one that aired on the Discovery Channel was an hour long documentary like program, that focused on the timeline of events that lead up to 9/11, focusing more on the planes that hit the twin towers, and the events on Flight 93 were the main focus in the last 20 minutes or so of the hour-long program.
This one on A&E is two hours long, the one on the Discovery Channel was an hour long and was more or less a documentary based show, using dramatizations and audio from 911 Emergency tape conversations from passengers alerting officials of a terrorist takeover, as well as FAA tapes of the air traffic control at Boston Center. It basically reconstructed what it must have been like on the planes at the time, right up to impact.
You're right, it was moving, and at times, very riveting and emotional to the point it was hard to watch. But it put a face on the evil we're up against.

Holy cow...
I've got a copy of that sort of boxcutter as in the 4th photo.
And yes, it would be an effective weapon, used correctly.
Chilling thoughts...
What do the familes think? What can we in the public do to make this happen?
Thanks, Julie. I missed it. I still think they should start all over again from scratch, but this is at least better than the original.
Wolfstar,
I believe it is in the works for the Presidential Medal of Freedom. It has been so long since I've heard of anything that I'm really not sure what the status is. The channels and bureacracy is mind-boggling so it may just be part of the process.
If I hear of anything I will let you know.
Chris
An interesting sidenot that a lot of people don't know about. At the one year anniversary in Shanksville all of the families got together for a dinner. There was a military band(phenomenaal) - I believe from the Marine Corps, numberous speakers - VERY touching and genuine event. Then, a representative from the American Legion got up to give an award to each family for their loved one's sacrifices. This award has very few recipients and is among the hightest honors the Legion bestowes. After a some very touching words of praise for those who died on 9-11, it was revealed that Shanksville has an American Legion. And it's Post Number? American Legion, Post 911. Spooky.
To freak some people out further, the next day the Pick-3 lottery in NYC came out 9-1-1.
Thanks Julie.
Thanks for your reply, Chris. I am interested in the Presidential Medal of Freedom being awarded to the passengers and crew of that flight. If you hear of anything we in the general public can do to show our support, please let me know.
