To Violence Policy Center Action Network Members:
ALITO NEWS--
As you know, in 1996 Supreme Court Nominee Samuel Alito issued a minority opinion arguing for repeal of the 1986 federal ban on the transfer and possession of new machine guns by civilians. As part of its public education efforts, this week the Violence Policy Center released a new, short, web-based video illustrating the firepower of machine guns. You can view the video at http://www.vpc.org/alito-video.htm. Please forward this e-mail to as many people as you can to show them the devastating effects of these banned guns.
Please call your Senators at (202) 224-3121 to urge them to OPPOSE the Alito nomination. Senators Leahy (D-VT), Durbin (D-IL), Kennedy (D-MA), Salazar (D-CO), Mikulski (D-MD), and Baucus (D-MT), have all already announced their intent to vote against Alito. If they are your Senators, please call to thank them.
Just today, Senator Durbin was quoted in the Chicago Sun Times saying that there may be enough votes to sustain a filibuster against the nomination.
MORE GOOD NEWS FROM THE STATES--
Our campaign to restrict 50 caliber anti-armor sniper rifles continues to gain momentum--
o In Illinois, Governor Rod Blagojevich and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley announced plans to push for a statewide assault weapons ban that would include a ban on 50 caliber sniper rifles: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/west/chi-0601180124jan18,1,7679078.story?coll=chi-newslocalwest-hed
o Last week, the New York Assembly voted again to ban 50 caliber sniper rifles: http://www.legislativegazette.com/read_more.php?story=885
o And in Hawaii, the Attorney General called for 50 caliber sniper rifles to be more strictly regulated: http://www.kpua.net/news.php?id=7284
Also, this past week, the VPC began writing a blog at The Huffingtonpost.com. Our first entry also deals with the Alito nomination and can be viewed at http://www.huffingtonpost.com/search/?query=Sugarmann&submit=+Search+
Thank you, as always, for your efforts to help stop gun death and injury. If you would like to make a contribution to support the VPC's work on these and other issues, please visit https://www.vpc.org/donate.asp.
Thank you again.
No. Wait. I'm not even trying. Now that I'm checking it, my Giveashitometer says "0".
Alito gets my vote!
F...ING SCUM BAGS.
I'm a .50 BMG owner and I would love to get into it with these $H*T.
I HATE these people more than words can experss!
".. Samuel Alito issued a minority opinion arguing for repeal of the 1986 federal ban on the transfer and possession of new machine guns by civilians.."
What's wrong with that? This opinion alone qualifies the man for a Supreme Court chair.
And how many thousands of people were killed in Hawaii and Illinois by 50 caliber sniper rifles last year alone? Just a hunch, but my guess is "0". Were the people (if they exist) that did the shooting not deterred by the other laws that already prohibit shooting people with high caliber rifles? How will this law be any more of a deterrent?
Let me get this straight.....
The same people who are screaming that it violates our right to privacy if someone listens to a conversation with an Al Qaida member in an international call....
think it is OK to take away a gun from a law abiding citizen????
Second thought...basically, their arguement is that Alito isn't fit to be a Supreme Court Justice because he ruled according to the Constitution? Hilarious
The idiots need to check the ammo prices. Machine gunning is a rather $$$ proposition.
"--but---but---guns ARE EVIL!"
"if you want to own one, YOU MUST BE EVIL TOO!"
"only we can protect you from yourself."
So it goes!
I'd love one myself. Had a chance to shoot some and it was a ball.
If you ever get down here to Ohio give me a call. You can shoot my MP-5 here on the farm.I've even got a 3 lug AWC suppresor for it.Great fun to shoot,we've run about 120k rounds throught it in 10 years-only had to rebarrel once.

Fun for toys, but VERY expensive to play.
This year it's .50 caliber rifles.
Next year it will be .49 caliber rifles.
Then .48 caliber, .47 caliber, .46 caliber, and then .45 caliber pistols.
Sammy gets my vote!
I wonder if that is true.
