Molly Ivins: I Won't Back Hillary

"I'd like to make it clear to the people who run the Democratic Party that I will not support Hillary Clinton for president.”

With that pronouncement, liberal syndicated columnist Molly Ivins begins a blistering column that castigates Hillary and the Democratic Party for failing to take a strong stand on a variety of issues important to liberals like her.

Et tu, Brute?

"Enough triangulation, calculation and equivocation. Enough clever straddling, enough not offending anyone,” Ivins writes in her column on CNN.com.

"Sen. Clinton is apparently incapable of taking a clear stand on the war in Iraq, and that alone is enough to disqualify her. Her failure to speak out on Terri Schiavo, not to mention that gross pandering on flag-burning, are just contemptible little dodges ...

"There are times when regular politics will not do, and this is one of those times. There are times a country is so tired of bull that only the truth can provide relief.

"If no one in conventional-wisdom politics has the courage to speak up and say what needs to be said, then you go out and find some obscure junior senator from Minnesota with the guts to do it. In 1968, Gene McCarthy was the little boy who said out loud, ‘Look, the emperor isn't wearing any clothes.’”

Ivins says the majority of Americans believe the war in Iraq is a mistake and the U.S. should get out, and a majority are also in favor of raising the minimum wage, repealing President Bush’s tax cuts, imposing a windfall profits tax on big oil companies and reducing the deficit not by cutting domestic spending, but by reducing Pentagon spending or raising taxes.

"That is the center, you fools,” Ivins tells Hillary and the Democrats. "WHO ARE YOU AFRAID OF?”

For "pragmatic folk” like Hillary, Joe Biden and Joe Lieberman, Ivins urges: "Oh come on, people - get a grip on the concept of leadership ...

"Do not sit there cowering and pretending the only way to win is as Republican-lite. If the Washington-based party can't get up and fight, we'll find someone who can.”

The real reason is that she's jealous of any woman who's less ugly than she is.

"There are times a country is so tired of bull that only the truth can provide relief."

Said with a completely straight face, and after 8 years of Clinton.

You call that sanity?

I call it utter delusion.

Raise taxes, tax business until you put them out of business, stop spending money on defense, kill inconvenient people at will...

Hillary may agree with Molly and probably does, but she knows darn well no one could get elected on that platform.

Let them get emotional, let them get all fired up and demand a true blue liberal so we can have our final humiliating victory against them. If they follow history and pull what they did in 72 I can see it now;

Feingold/Boxer
Fighting For The Heart of America.

I can see the landslide now ROFL. Let them get into a self rightous tizzy and nominate a uber liberal ticket because they think the nation will vote for them just because they think they hate all republicans.

Love Your Country, Encourage A Liberal Today!

I wonder how she will disavow these comments when she decides to "reluctantly" back the evil sinator?

Your observation is right on the money.

Encourage liberals to "take their causes to the streets."

I used to be pissed at the vulgar and offensive ultra liberal bumperstickers I would see around my university town and then one day I realized that the bumperstickers were preaching to the choir (no good) and driving conservatives like me to reply at the polls (A Good Thing).

Go Hillary! Gay Marriage, Abortion, Treason, Gun Control and lots of Free Stuff!

Told ya all so. ;-)

Triangulation is dead. Cowards sniffing the polling winds is disrespected. Not just by Liberals either, but the American people in general are sick of it. Hill's trying to practice 1990's politics in the 21st century. It ain't working. People want their politicians to be honest now and take a position on principle. There were those that said Hill was smart to duck Terri Schiavo, and every other major happening. Wrong then, and wrong now. If you want to lead the United States of America then you have to be willing to lead on a position, popular and unpopular, before polls are in. She's ducked out on everything for years.

Sure, Molly will vote for her IF she's the nominee but it will not be a given she will be. Hillary may end up the next ted kennedy. A also ran. A washed up hasbeen welcome nowhere but NY state.

Subtract Leiberman and Zell Miller. They represent a very small portion left of the Party. The Democrats have really three large devisions. Triangulation-Clintons/MSM. Hard Left-Al Gore/Howard Dean/Michael Moore/Cindy Sheehan/Murtha/etc. Perceived "moderate-Warner/red state (disticts) Dems. These three are going to go head to head in the primaries for control of the party. They all have the same agenda, all Liberals, but they have different ways to get to the "promise land".

ROTFLMAO!! Of course, those boring old taxes. So dull, so dreary. Hillary will just tax cigarettes until they cost about $1000.00 apiece. No problem.

In 1968, Gene McCarthy was the little boy who said out loud, ‘Look, the emperor isn't wearing any clothes.’

And then Richard Nixon was elected to two terms. Thanks Gene, and let's hope the D's follow Molly's sage advice. And of course she'll support Hillary. She manages to be both an idiot and hypocrite in one easy article.

Yeah, Molly is probably one of the people calling Bill "Big Dog". That always makes my skin crawl to see the DU-ers calling him that. "Horn Dog" is more like it!

Hillary may run, but she won't win. She is too old (and looks it), her politics are from the 60's and her voice will continue to become thinner and more screechy over the next three years.

Now if only somebody could throw water on her and make her disappear!!!

The campaign trail is not going to be kind to her at all.

From your keyboard to God's ears.
