Bin Laden Offers Truce in Purported Tape Terrorist Leader Threatens New Attacks Against U.S. By Yara Bayoumy, Reuters
DUBAI (Jan. 19) -- Osama bin Laden warned that al-Qaida was preparing new attacks inside the United States, but said the group was open to a conditional truce with Americans, according to an audiotape attributed to him on Thursday.
Al Jazeera television, which aired the tape, said it was recorded in the Muslim month that corresponded to December.
"The operations are under preparation and you will see them in your houses as soon as they are complete, God willing," said the speaker on the audiotape, who sounded like bin Laden .
In the tape, broadcast by al Jazeera television, bin Laden said al-Qaida was willing to respond to the fact that public U.S. opinion favored withdrawing troops from Iraq.
"We have no objection to responding to this with a long-term truce based on fair conditions," he said.
Bin Laden issued an audiotape in April 2004 in which he also offered a truce -- on that occasion to Europe, but not to the United States. Bin Laden Messages, Past and Present

Timeline: Bin Laden's Messages
Analysts saw the move at the time as an attempt to drive a wedge between the United States and its allies and to scare wavering coalition members out of Iraq.
In the brief segments aired on Thursday, bin Laden ridiculed President Bush for misreading public opinion which he said showed Americans wanted U.S. forces to quit Iraq.
He also said Iraq had become a recruiting ground for militants. Al-Qaida in Iraq, led by one of bin Laden 's deputies, Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, is one of several insurgent groups fighting U.S. and foreign forces. U.S. and Iraqi officials say many of their members are non-Iraqis.
"Your president is misinterpreting public opinion polls which show that the vast majority of you support the withdrawal of your forces from Iraq," bin Laden said.
"He (Bush) disagreed with this desire and said the withdrawal of troops will give the wrong message to the enemy and that it is better to fight them on their ground than on our ground."
"Reality shows that the war against the U.S. and its allies is not just restricted to Iraq as he claims, but Iraq has become a gravitational point and a recruiting ground for qualified (mujahideen)."
A U.S. counterterrorism official said U.S. intelligence was assessing the tape to determine its authenticity.
Bin Laden 's last audiotape was in December 2004. The interval between then and now is his longest public silence since al-Qaida's September 11 attacks on the United States in 2001.
Saudi-born bin Laden and his right-hand man, Ayman al-Zawahri, are believed to be hiding in a mountainous area on the border between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
On Thursday, Pakistani intelligence sources said four top al-Qaida militants were believed to have been killed in a U.S. airstrike last week which U.S. officials say was aimed at Zawahri.
Hullo? Hullo? Is this Osama Barama? Baraka Bin Lama? Your Buddy, er, Teddy calling. Hullo?
The United States DOES NOT Negotiate with TERRORISTS!
Truce!! Truce!? You murdering POS, we're not stopping until your whole insane "religion" is an asterisk in a history book.
Paper Tiger, Bin Laden.
Think we did some REAL damage on that Pakistan hit!!!!!!!
Kermit the frog still sounds like Jim Henson, too.
Yeah. Bin Laden's going to get a "truce" when we stick his fat head in a noose.
Yeah, I'm sure this sign of weakness from OBL is going over like a turd in the punch bowl at Buckingham Palace in the Arab world. He must have gotten a good look at the wrong end of a Hellfire.
GO COALITION!!!
The Dems could have written that crappe. No wait, if the Dems had written it, it would have mentioned retaliating against states whose senators voted to confirm Sam Alito.
When your hand is upon your enemy's throat... you squeeze.
Victory is the exit strategy the Surrendercrats on the left side of the aisle will never comprehend.
Truce offer:
You and your associates will surrender to the United States at our embassy in either Kabul or Islamobad. In exchange for full cooperation in apprehending other terrorists, you will receive the following choice: death by hanging or spending the rest of your life locked in a room with a menu of your choice and a tv monitor that shows Algore's Current TV 24/7. Should you not cooperate, you will receive the latter.
The President isn't misinterpreting the polls.
He is appropriately ignoring them.

You forgot the choice between Current TV and any of Al Franken's books.
The American public deserves to hear/read a complete transcript of Mr. Bin Laden's statement.
The fact that the media has access to full transcripts and does not release them for public purview speaks volumes about the sad state of the MSM.
Ha Ha...LOFL
You want a truce? Tell it to the thousands that died. When you'll get caught by US Green Beret or SEALS or SAS ask them for a truce. Burn in hell mother fuc^ker
You know as I think about this I come to a couple of conclusions. Either God is definitely looking out for President Bush because everytime the Democrats lift their voices in opposition against the president and America, Osama comes out with a tape that only unites most of this country behind the president. Or it is all a big coincidence that when the Democrats feel that they are getting the upper hand in the press with their stupid remarks they are slapped down by an Osama tape.
I don't which but it is good that Americans are once again reminded that this is an ongoing war on terror and we cannot let our guard down. It is also a good thing that the president has his State of the Union speech next week.
