Crimean Tatars Call On Kyiv To Restore Their Rights 12 December 2005 -- Members of the Crimean Tatar Congress gathered in the main Crimean city Simferopol said yesterday that Ukraine's integration with the West should not go forward until Kyiv restores Tatar rights.
Congressional delegates, issuing a statement at the end of the three-day session, accused Ukrainian authorities of disregarding the rights of Crimean Tatars, who were deported en masse by Soviet leader Josef Stalin in 1944.
RFE/RL's Tatar-Bashkir Service reported that congress member Timur Dagci was among the voices calling for Kyiv to recognize the deportation as genocide:
"Our problem -- the problem of Stalin's genocide of the Crimean Tatar people -- is an undeniable fact, so I believe all countries, the United Nations, and the European Union will recognize it and will decide that it was indeed genocide," Dagci said.
Many Tatars have since returned to Crimea, but have been unable to reclaim valuable land and property that was theirs before the deportations.
The Tatar Congress delegates called on the Council of Europe and the European Union to make Ukraine's possible membership in the EU and World Trade Organization contingent on their recognition of Crimean Tatar rights.

Right. For the Putie-crew here it's not an argument. Polish camp is a concentration camp, poles commited genocide while at the same time Ruskies didn't...Wait the minute it was the Soviets.
Kwasniewski and Yushchenko are commies while Putie is a real Christian and defends democracy.
Backing Orange Rev. in a democratic way was a "polish imperialism" while at the same time russian manipulation over voting results wasn't.
One can post many examples of that paranoia..
It isn't paranoia man. This is conscious denial serving well understood national interest.
I'm afraid you are right. Sad but true, there are some who belive that some things can be forgotten, and the history can be rewritten. It was once tried but failed. Today we see the same thing. Greetings from -20C Warsaw ;)
Wow, or another way of looking at that might be: those "rebels" wishing to free their lands and preserve their religion from Polinization and Polish expansionism. Since none of them were striking at Poland proper but only on those territories which were not polish, that argument doesn't hold water.
Poland took by force and raped the majority of what was her common wealth, which is why the Cossaks had been launching rebellions against Poland from the 1400s, all brutally suppressed by you angels of mercy.
Furthermore, the very Unionite Church was a creation of Polish Lords and Jesuits in an attempt to destroy Orthodoxy in Orthodox lands. So don't go playing the innocent victim. Your history is just as bloody, to include occupation of Rus lands for 500 years, including Moscow twice. The last time, Poles burned down Moscow as they were besieged, killing a large chunk of the population. That was in the early 1600s, hardly a long time ago.
There's a love fest of revisionism and white washing of Polish history going on here, come join in the fun.
I have already denounced Yanukovich, as well as foreign funding of either candidate.
The fact that the Poles in this thread refuse to denounce that proves they are fine with foreign governments mandating rulers in other countries (that's imperialism)
What an interesting leap in logic. Putie is right to ban NGOs because some people may hand out leaflets with plans of dirty bombs. Are you sure you haven't smoked anything illegal today?
there are instances when speech isn't protected, and nations have a right to say when that scenerio is.
In Russia that scenario is when somebody criticizes government policy.
What is sedition in your opinion? Does saying that government violates human rights or that it falisfies elections fall into that category? In Russia yes, it is sedition. On the other hand Zhirinovski and National bolsheviks may say whatever they like, they are not a danger to Putie so they will be left alone.
There is not even a comparison between those two sides. Yanukovych falsified elections - Yushchenko won thanks to the people of Ukraine and not Soros money (regardless if he got any at all and how much)
foreign governments mandating rulers in other countries
This is exactly what Russians were trying to do. On the other hand Soros is not a foreign government and if you think that he has the power to mandate ruler in any country your condition must be really grave. Again - no comparison between Yanukovitch and Yushchenko.
Oh an Yushchenko didn't fallsify any votes at all. Seriously, and there was no voter fraud by liberals in 2004 either. What fantasy are you living in.
Open Soviety Institute is a foreign entity, as is US Congress which also gave money to the same Soros-run NGOs.
Yeah they like the liking their boots maybe.
I'm surprised Poles don't celebrate that one of their own was in on the great Ukraine famine:
Stanislav Kosior or Kossior (Russian: ????????? ??????????? ??????, Polish: Stanis?aw Kosior) (1889February 26, 1939) was one of three brothers Kosiors, Polish-born Soviet politicians. He was the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Ukrainian SSR, and deputy prime minister of the USSR. Among others, he was responsible for the Great Famine in the Ukraine.
After the Brest Peace Treaty he moved back to Russia, where in 1920 he became the secretary of the All-Russian Communist Party (Bolsheviks) and since 1922 he headed the Siberian branch of the communist party. Between 1925 and 1928 he was a secretary of the party's central committee and in 1928 he became Secretary General of the Ukrainian SSR Communist Party (KP(b)U). Among his tasks was conducting the forcible collectivization, which resulted with the Great Famine in 1931 and 1932.
No Mosnews is not leftist. You don't know why it is banned from FR. I guess there are some legal problems.
Mosnews only quotes Rand Corporation - leftists too?
If someone cannot afford an abortion the government should be allowed to insist they not be given funds with which to do so.
Why? Wouldn't it be a discrimination in the purest form? (Assuming that abortion is legal).
In russia they have state-owned national health service, so I think they don't have to pay for abortion (though I'm not sure)
Mega lol for you. This sentence shows everything. For you it is ok to falsify elections in the dark but not ok when some countries opose this openly. Belive me if The People of Ukraine chose Yanukovych we would do nothing. But they didn't chose him. And that's the case. Period.
Baseless smear as usual. Prove it Ivan.
