Costa Mesa Boycott Threat(Illegals. Ya gotta read this!)
The Orange County Register ^ | January 19, 2006 | PEGGY LOWE

Posted on 01/19/2006 6:08:35 AM PST by kellynla

SANTA ANA – As local law enforcement appealed to Latino leaders Wednesday to help with controversial plans to enforce immigration laws, one Hispanic activist threatened protests in Costa Mesa if the proposals are approved.

Nativo Lopez said if the plans are enacted he will ask Latinos to refuse to cooperate with Costa Mesa police through a campaign of "non-confidence and silence," will launch a boycott of businesses within the city, and will hold a mass march and rally there on President's Day weekend.

Lopez was among several people, including Sheriff Mike Carona and Costa Mesa Police Chief John Hensley, who spoke at a discussion organized by the Orange County Community Forum, an organization of faith, ethnic and grass-roots groups.

Police sweeps are nothing new, Lopez said, but now police and politicians are using fears brought on by the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks to justify a public policy that they say will help cut crime.

"The fallacy of these arguments about crime and security is that they have been tried before, but previously the anti-immigrant crowd did not have the Twin Towers as their big fig leaf," Lopez said.

Carona and Hensley didn't react to Lopez's threat during the forum. Both asked Latino leaders for help in educating the community on their plans, which they said have been mischaracterized as racial profiling and sweeps aimed at undocumented immigrants.

"Nativo Lopez"...get the hell out of my country.

Some background information on Nativo.

September 10, 2003 -- [When Davis was to sign the bill to give driver's licenses to illegal aliens] Standing just behind Governor Davis at his signing ceremony – probably to pull his puppet strings – was another MEChA-like figure who ought to become better known to those White Americans now taking their last gasp.

This activist is Nativo Lopez, elected in July as President of MAPA, the Mexican American Political Association. Months before that he was head of the public school board in Santa Ana in California's once-conservative Orange County south of Los Angeles. He also headed a radical Hispanic grievance organization called Hermandad Mexicana Nacional.

This ethnic demagogue has come to be widely known in Southern California as "the Hispanic Al Sharpton."

Nativo Lopez believes that Spanish should be the language of California, the language of the future reconquista. After Californians passed Proposition 227 mandating, in effect, an end to bilingual education, Lopez did all in his power to undermine it. He lobbied parents to sign waivers so that their children could continue to be taught in Spanish, not English.

"A Santa Ana nonprofit has agreed to pay more than $600,000 to the U.S. Government to settle a case in which prosecutors alleged that Hermandad Mexicana Nacional leader Nativo Lopez wrongly diverted grant money meant for English classes for immigrants," reported the local Orange County Register newspaper (click here to read the article). [Part of this plea bargain with the Feds included the state of California dropping its lawsuit against Lopez.]

After voters passed a $145 million bond issue to build more schools for Santa Ana's growing families, Nativo Lopez and a Hispanic fellow school board member insisted on managing the proposed construction themselves and personally screening every prospective architectural firm. While they dithered, legal deadlines were missed that cost taxpayers many millions of dollars.

"Lopez and others," reports Steven Greenhut in the Orange County Register, "were soliciting the architectural firms for campaign contributions at the same time he was screening the contract applicants."

Sounds like a good time and place for some border guard Training, I bet they could rent some buses from Willie Wonka. And, here you see the core problem: what if every protestor that showed up was an American-born citizen - that is a guaranteed right under both the U.S. and California Constitutions - I can see South Coast Plaza from my office window right now. Do you think they want a boycott by any significant group with real purchasing power? THAT is the problem with assuming every "Latino" is illegal, my friend.

Lopez lost his job as a trustee on the Santa Ana school board when he was recalled in 2003. However, a federal appeals court ruled two months ago that the recall was conducted improperly because there were no ballots printed in Spanish.

Our tax dollars at work, thanks to pandering judges and politicians.

Advice to travelers, BEWARE, parts of once-American Orange County are turning into Tijuana north.

Some background information on Mike "Skippy" Carona:

In April of 2003 the Orange County Register reported on the gross misuse of the Sheriff’s Department helicopter in an article entitled “County copter put to personal use: Records show Sheriff Mike Carona has used the department aircraft for events at considerable expense to taxpayers.”

The article exposes a pattern of abuse where by Skippy and his staff using the Sheriff’s helicopters as “flying limousines at least 16 times during the past year, zipping Sheriff Mike Carona, his staff and others to award ceremonies, television interviews, the airport and a Lake Arrowhead retreat.

The trips tied up the patrol helicopters more than 36 hours in 2002, at a cost to taxpayers of more than $26,000 in fuel, maintenance and staff, records show.

At a price of $720 per flight hour, using the two helicopters cost six times more than an actual limousine, prompting one taxpayer advocacy group to question whether the trips are an appropriate use of public funds.”

It is well known in the department that Skippy has flown with one of his “alleged” mistresses on the Sheriff’s helicopter on at least one occasion, yet it is rumored that her name does not appear on the flight log, a violation of federal law.

Additional advice to travelers, BEWARE, parts of once-American San Francisco are turning into China East and, God forbid, New York City are turning into Spic central.

"what if every protestor that showed up was an American-born citizen"

"what if?"

FYI, as a CA native, I can confirm that the most outraged about the illegal immigration issue are in fact American citizens of Mexican ancestry. These illegals are not only taking away jobs that have historically been done by American citizens of Hispanic ancestry but the illegals are also pulling down the wage scale of the job market.
And any American, no matter where their ancestry, knows that if they need a job there exists legitimate avenues for getting a job.

Do you mean "working class born-American taxpayers" with Mexican parents who are footing those bills too? I'm not defending Navito Lopez, by any means, but I think you are painting with a pretty large brush there. We have a $13 TRILLION economy to worry about, you know?

How about increased border enforcement AND increased levels of legal immigration? That sounds like a healthy compromise. And, I do think that more needs to be done to assimilate those already here - that's what has made America great.

P.S. I doubt South Coast Plaza wants to lose ANY business from it's share of a group that can afford to send $38 BILLION back home . . .

the illegals will be faking injury and suing L.A. and Home Depot! you just wait and see...every ambulance chaser withing fifty miles

Bush Stops at Home Depot as Reward to Generous GOP Donor

President Bush made two stops in Maryland on Friday. First came a big-ticket fundraiser in Baltimore. Then he delivered a speech on the economy to workers at a Home Depot in nearby Halethorpe.

Bush's appearance at the home improvement store baffled locals. On Wednesday, The Sun in Baltimore headlined a story on the upcoming visit to the town in southwest Baltimore County. Titled "A Presidential Mystery."

Research by Public Citizen suggests the president's visit is a way to reward the nation's second-largest retailer for its generosity to the Bush campaign and the Republican Party. Home Depot employees and their families have given $1.5 million to the GOP since 1999. During that time, no candidate has benefited from Home Depot's largesse more than Bush.

FYI, as a CA native AND American citizen of Mexican ancestry, I am not "outraged about the illegal immigration issue". There is enough in a healthy economy (and more importantly, American values of Freedom and Hope for a new life) for everyone here - what we should NOT do is anything to trigger another recession though.
