Yes, unfortunately I think it's the old school "but what if they enjoy it!!!??" mentality. Which, in this case leads to "but what if they enjoy it more than we do!!??", and that in turn leads to scrapping off the genitals to make sure the woman isn't "doing" the man (because now she can't feel anything), if you know what I mean.

That is not so much an Islamic thing as an African one. Islamics in the rest of the world don't do it.

Yes it is. But it not universally practiced in the Islamic world. Many of the most conservative tribes of the Arabian Peninsula consider the practice to be barbaric.
There might be a great deal of sexual fear among Muslim men, but I think Islamic extremists are primarily motivated by the possibility of rewards in the afterlife and by being thought of as a "heroes" by their family and peers.

Of course female circumcision is related to misogyny. 'Control women' is all-encompasing. Only Judeo-Christianity, among the great religions, elevates women as child-bearers and puts them within the protective circle of the husband-protected family.
