NEW YORK — Friends, family and strangers said a tearful goodbye to a 7-year-old girl allegedly beaten to death by an abusive stepfather, with a priest assuring that the young victim was now "beyond the touch of evil."
The sounds of weeping filled St. Mary Church as the body of Nixzmary Brown lay inside a coffin before an altar still decorated with Christmas poinsettias.
"We have a reminder by the death of this child that the violence continues," said the Rev. Robert O'Neil, the church pastor. "She is a witness for us."
Nixzmary's stepfather, Cesar Rodriguez, allegedly beat the 7-year-old on Jan. 10 for taking a yogurt from the family's refrigerator.

Typical sadist. Starve a child then punish them for trying to eat. The step-father should be drawn and quartered.

"Mom" needs punishing as well. After witnessing the torture & beating, she left her daughter dying on the floor crying "don't leave me mommy" and went to bed. Hours later, her other child told her Nixzmary was "too quiet", found her cold, THEN she got a neighbor - too late.
If he does get the death penalty, he will just be put to sleep like a vet puts a pet to sleep. He won't feel any pain other the maybe the prick of the needle. Unlike the child that he killed

Another example of why the 5th Amendment's prohibition of cruel and unusual punishment must be repealed for child murderers. Monsters who do this sort of evil must be tortured until they beg for death, for decades if need be. There should be a department of the government devoted to coming up with new and innovative methods of excruciatingly painful torture. If this is not poltiically feasible, then the perpetrators, given conviction complete with DNA evidence, should be released into the custody of the victim's family, to do as they see fit. The death penalty is a joke. Lethal injection is mockery of justice, numbing the perp and then rapidly stopping his heart. There is only the fear of death. It is not enough. They must suffer 1000 times what they made the child suffer. By fist, by flame, by blade, by saw, by stinging insect to the genitals, by acid to the eyeballs. Etc.
These two animals won't live long in prison. Justice will be done, though not by the state.

I heard she begged her grandmother on Christmas to let her stay with her. But her grandmother refused for some reason.

Stepfather??? Or mom's current live-in boy-friend-of-the-month? Its amazing (or is it?) that so many never or formerly married "mothers" of little children invite men about whom they know little or nothing to share their beds and allow them to have access, even unsupervised access to their innocent, helpless, trusting children. Equally amazing (or perhaps not), our criminal "justice" system ascribes no culpability to such mothers, whose primary personal and societal responsibility is to insure the safety of their children to the best of their ability.
It's the 8th amendment.
Amendment VIII
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
