WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Sen. Hillary Clinton drew criticism Tuesday for a Martin Luther King Jr. Day speech in which she told a mostly black audience at a Harlem church that Republican leaders have run the House "like a plantation" and the Bush administration will go down as "one of the worst" in U.S. history.
Responding to the speech, House Speaker Dennis Hastert called her remarks "a little bit over the top."
"I've never run a plantation before. I'm not even sure of what kind of association she's trying to make," said the speaker, a Republican from Illinois. "If she's trying to be racist, I think that's unfortunate, but I'm not going to comment any further on that."
One of Clinton's Republican congressional colleagues from New York, Rep. Peter King, said the senator "should be ashamed."

I'm really glad that Hitlery isn't as polished an idiot as her Impeached, Treasonous, Rapist ex-President Husband. That's very true.
Hillary has as much polish as a 3000 year old piece of rusty pig iron.
And she's so darn angry.
I really think the roots of her paranoia and anger go way back to her childhood when her father gave her a toaster and a radio as bath toys.

I can't either, but I bet Mrs. Clinton's darling press guys would salivate in eager anticipation of President Bush's pronounciation of "plantation".

I'm glad you notice her use of "
you know". I wish someone would say to her
"no, I don't know."Mrs. Clinton gets by with saying nothing, and never having to answer anything. I saw her blissfully yammering with Tim Russert on Meet the Press. She never was challenged by Russert to explaino exactly what she means by "you know", because frankly, I don't think she knows either.

However, the host of the event where Clinton made her remarks Monday, activist Al Sharpton, disagreed with the criticism. "I absolutely defend her saying it because I said it through the '04 elections," he said.
And we all know how carefully Al considers his words. Ask Tawana Brawley.
The good news is that Al is considering running for President again, if he can find somebody to hire him to do it.

It's the only reason they keep me around. I remember numbers real well. Names not so good.

I don't think anyone around her would dare tell the "most smartest woman in the universe" just how utterly tasteless her careless and dishonest remarks are. You're right. The only thing to rival her tastelessness and insincerity is her pent-up anger.

Its SO funny when culturally clumsy white folks like Hillary and Gore try to pander and "be down"with black audiences.
You are right,Bill Clinton could pull it off without looking like a COMPLETE phony.Bill Bradley could do the soul thing halfway well since his NBA time culturally immersed him and he didn't have to"front"
Hillary is a total embarassmen. If she was straight up about her liberal agenda I could respect her.Yet her false attempts to be a "moderate"are absurd.

I can't imagine George W Bush speaking this way in public about anyone at anytime.
Very good point. The difference is that President Bush is a man of good character. Hillary Clinton, in contrast, engages in the hateful rhetoric of racial division for what she perceives to be her political gain. Her remarks were divisive and contemptible.
