Doctors seek kitchen knife ban EDWARD BLACK
Key points Doctors claim long kitchen knives serve no purpose except as weapons 55 out of 108 homicide victims in Scotland were stabbed last year Police superintendents say a ban would be difficult to enforce
Key quote "Many assaults are impulsive, often triggered by alcohol or misuse of other drugs, and the long pointed kitchen knife is an easily available, potentially lethal weapon, particularly in the domestic setting" - Dr Emma Hern, writing in British Medical Journal

Assault knives are merely ugly knives. If you have a pretty handle, it's OK.
Not if it's a pistol grip.

One doesn't
need kitchen knives for eating porridge, gruel and haggis.
I don't see what all the fuss is about!

55 out of 108 homicide victims in Scotland were stabbed last year. The real story here is that Scotland, with a population of about 5.1 million people, only had 108 homicides. Compare that with the number of homicides in places like the former New Orleans, Washington, D.C., Dallas, Houston, Phoenix, Miami, Tulsa, Atlanta, Jacksonville, etc.

"LOL, I'd lose a finger at that rate! At $200, i'd hide it, too.
I use a santoku for a lot of stuff, I like the shape better for veggies, etc."
Never quite got the hang of the santoku. I have a nice one, but it rarely get's used.
I had my knife made to order, after I couldn't find exactly what I wanted in any of the commercial blades. Silly of me, but it was a gift from a very good friend.
The key, IMO, is using high carbon steel for the blade. Never stainless. Only carbon steel can accept the fine edge, although it requires more frequent touch-up sharpenings. I wanted a perfect handle, too, and the knifemaker took a mold of my grip.
It's silly, I know. I have a Henkel that's almost as nice, and cost a lot less, but what the heck? You only go around once.

They were stabbed with pillows and coffee mugs, of course.

That's just my opinion. I could be wrong. I probably am wrong, not being a doctor and all.
That's the nexus of it.
To own the means of production, to nationalize all activities under socialism, the intellectual can use a back door of licensing every tool and task one may do.
These "doctors" are glorified cops. Many scientists are not true scientists, but people who have learned the functions of a few things, enough to call themselves authorities above others.
These doctors are licensed in cutting live people, basicaly, and they want to assert this authority and power over others who can do better than them on pork in the kitchen for mere survival and efficient life. The advent of the robot and a variant on the matrix could be possible in this respect in the end: technology meant to make us helpless slaves by dumbing us down in skills taken over by government licensed robots.
Everyone would have to be a doctor specialized in some narrow cybernetic field of robot function in order to have some piece of authority.

Trouble with a santoku is that you can't rock the blade to chop. That's really nice for chopping herbs and the like. Other than that, it's a fine blade shape.
A lot of chef's like a scimitar blade, with a pronounced curve, for meat work. I don't even have one, though.

Doctors: A) The number of doctors in the US is 700,000
B) Accidental deaths caused by physicians per year are 120,000
C) Accidental deaths per physician is 17.14%
Statistics courtesy of the US Dept. of Health &Human Services
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Guns
A) The number of gun owners in the US is 80,000,000 (yes that's 80 million!)
B) The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups is 1,500.
C) The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.001875%
Statistics courtesy of the FBI
So statistically, doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
Remember, guns don't kill people, doctors do.
FACT:
NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS A DOCTOR. Please alert your friends to this alarming threat. We should ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand! Out of concern for the public at large, I have withheld statistics on lawyers for fear the shock would cause people to panic and seek medical attention.

And naturally, people who are bent on stabbing other people won't learn to make knives out of broken glass. Or perhaps these dimwits are planning to ban mirrors and windows next. Sheet metal would have to go too -- ask any prison guard.
To: vrwc0915
Chief Superintendent Tom Buchan, president of the Association of Scottish Police Superintendents, said although a ban on sharp, pointed kitchen knives would be welcome, it could be difficult to enforce. This guy needs to come to America and run for Congress....As he is a mental giant, and would win in a heartbeat...
