Senator Ted Kennedy, who lambasted Judge Alito on his membership to a Princeton alumni group that once published a satirical editorial that brought on unfounded charges of racism and sexism, was recently caught being a member of a group that did not permit women to become members, exposing his hypocrisy. In a move that can only be described as CYA, Kennedy says he will quit the group.
U.S. Sen. Edward M. Kennedy who ripped Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito for ties to a group that discriminates against women says hes going to quit a club notorious for discriminating against women as fast as I can. Kennedy was outed by conservatives late last week as a current member of The Owl Club, a social club for Harvard alumni that bans women from membership.
In an interview with WHDH Channel 7s Andy Hiller that aired last night, Kennedy said, I joined when I . . . 52 years ago, I was a member of the Owl Club, which was basically a fraternal organization.
Asked by Hiller whether he is still a member, Kennedy said, Im not a member; I continue to pay about $100.
He then said of being a member in a club that discriminates against women, I shouldnt be and Im going to get out of it as fast as I can.
The Harvard Crimson reports that, in 1984, the university severed ties with clubs like the Owl, citing a federal law championed by Kennedy.
If it can work for Senator Robert Byrd, a former Klansman, Kennedy certainly has nothing to fear, atleast, not from his fellow Democrats.
Pardon My English wonders:
If Kennedy is not a member of this group, as he claims, why does he need to get out of it? He must still be a member, after all, according to the online membership directory of the Owl Club, he did update his personal information with the group in September.
HOST: Senator ted kennedy is taking heat about his grilling about a conservative club he was a member of while at princeton. Kennedy is defending himself against charges that he still pays dues to a men's only club. He says he joined the howl while attending harvard 52 years ago. The owl club severed its official ties with harvard back in the 1980's rather than admit women. Records show kennedy updated his personal information with the club last september. Kennedy says he is no longer an active member and plans to sever all ties to that group.
Mary Jo Kopechne was unavailable for comment.
hyannis orcinus has definetly been getting borked pretty badly the last couple of weeks.
Andy Hiller, "Do you think you could be confirmed by the judiciary committee?"
Sen. Kennedy, "Probably not...probably not."
True to the Kennedy tradition. Can't drive, can't ski, can't fly, but are real good liars.
Kennedy accepted dinner reservations at the Owl Club before he declined them.
Reminds me of J. Fraud Kerrys statement about all the SUV's parked in front of his place:
"It's not my SUV. I don't own an SUV. My family has it."
What liars and hypocrites.
Big plus for the Owl Club.
It is becoming quite clear that Ted Kennedy doesn't give a hoot about women.
What is the $100 for if you are not a member Teddy?
What a bald-face lie!!!!!!!!!!!
Sen. Kennedy, "Probably not...probably not."
It doesn't get funnier than this...
Kennedy said, Im not a member; I continue to pay about $100.
That $100 is the deposit for his uniform, because he's the VALET. He parks cars for the actual members. Upside down.
Owls attack their prey at night, when no one can see what's happening. Kennedy has learned all of this, so now it's time to, "abandon ship".
He paid his dues before he didn't pay them, so he has to quit the club he didn't belong to.
And he pays the $100 for what?
I believe it was on Fox this weekend where I saw Bob Boeckel and a republican stategist debating. When asked about Ted, Bob said that maybe it is time for him to let someone else take over. A " younger blood" sort of thing.
Well, The Senator is part of a discriminatory club. The title of the book is appropriate. Do as I say, Not as I do.
