PESHAWAR, Pakistan - At least four foreign terrorists died in the U.S. airstrike on a Pakistani border village that was purportedly aimed at al-Qaida's No. 2 leader, the provincial government said Tuesday.

A statement by the administration of the Pakistan's tribal region bordering Afghanistan also said that between 10 and 12 foreign extremists had been invited to dinner at the village hit in Friday's attack.

Well, they did switch to "extremists" in the second paragraph.

The government knows it was an effective strike. They will slowly acknowledge that.

Heck, yeah. Pakistan was involved in this strike, no doubt in my mind. They may be coming forth with this info now to attempt to ease the tensions/protests over there.

So 10-12 were invited. That means no more than 10 terrorists killed. Figure a couple of no-shows (including supposedly the evil Doc), and I'm guessing we'll be treated to another four or so dead terrorists. < / fuzzymath >

What is most impressive is he fact that we collected the intelligence to know of this in the first place

Wouldn't it be justice if this intel was gleaned from cell phone calls from the U.S.

The New York Times is preparing to release a statement questioning the veracity of Pakistani officials.

I'd like to know more of the inside details on this. Like, was the person who invited all the bad guys for dinner in on the hit? Was this a setup ambush, or did we just get some lucky intel?

First 'official' announcement perhaps, but I saw essentially this in the news a couple days ago; can't remember where, however.

What was stated in one article was that 'foreigners' had been invited to this party, leaving no doubt in my mind that 'foreigners' had to be terrorists. Another news article stated that Zawahiri had been invited but had sent representatives instead.

This seems to encapsulate both articles.

Previous reports have taken two paths, from what I've seen. One is that our intel folks were tracking Al Zawahiri for several days prior to this strike, and the other is that intel got word of a big terrorist meeting in this location (I even saw one Asian article speculating Mullah Omar was the main guy, not Z-man) and put Predators on station until the "guests" arrived.

There have been numerous articles covering both of those items. This is the first official pronouncement from the Pakistanis. That's why it's major news on the AP.

I suspect that the protests/tensions stem partly from the realization that the relative safety of their sanctuaries is a thing of the past, both in terms of the quality of the intel against them, and our escallated measures to exploit it.

Hundreds of jihadi sympathizers went pear shaped last friday when the news broke.

Pakistan gave us the intelligence. Their remarks since then have to cover their a**e*. They want to get rid of the Islamists as bad as we do, but don't want to admit that.

Of course, the religion of peace often uses women and children as terrorists. Maybe 4 active terrorists, and a few recruits to boot!

Plus these protests are being organized by the terrorist networks. These evil cowards are excellent at manipulating media coverage.
