Apple added Intel processors to an existing Mac desktop and an entirely new laptop, updated Mac OS X and iLife, and introduced an FM tuner/remote control for the iPod. The new Intel-based iMac will feature Intel's new Centrino Duo processor.
On the mobile side, the PowerBook is being retired in favor of the MacBook Pro, Apple's new high-end laptop that also features Centrino Duo. . |
For the same $79 as last year's product, Apple has strengthened the Web focus of its iLife '06 creativity suite, with new multimedia-sharing features just shy of full-fledged social networking, podcast-creation capabilities for GarageBand 2, and brand-new iWeb, a Web page design application. |

Sling Media will soon offer its SlingPlayer Mobile software, which enables Windows Mobile 4 or 5 devices such as the Palm Treo 700w, the upcoming Motorola Q, or any Windows Mobile Pocket PC handheld to receive streaming video from the home TV, including local broadcasts, cable TV, DVR--you name it. The application will also allow you to control and program your TV, your DVR, or even your 100-disc DVD player. Yes, indeed, the Mobile version of the software works well using either a Wi-Fi or a 3G network, |
Coming soon: The deluxe version of the HomeDock ($149). Now armed with a bigger 18-button remote, the HomeDock Deluxe allows you to navigate playlists and gives you control of any iPod with a dock connector from afar, thanks mostly to the fact that the device pipes a song and menu interface out to an attached TV. Imagine navigating and picking out a specific song or a playlist on a plasma display from across the room. DLO is refining the interface for its March shipping date. |

On January 10, Steve Jobs announced the MacBook Pro, a 15.4-inch wide-screen laptop that runs on Intel's just-announced Core Duo processor. Jobs claims the new processor results in performance that's four to five times faster than that of the PowerBook G4--a welcome development for Mac users who have felt left behind in the speed race. The one-inch-thick MacBook Pro weighs 5.6 pounds and includes a built-in iSight camera, an ExpressCard slot, and an Apple Remote for navigating the company's Front Row media software. Two models will be available in February: the $1,999 model has a 1.67GHz processor, 512MB of RAM, and an 80GB hard drive, while the $2,499 version has a 1.83GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 100GB hard drive. |
Nokia introduces the 6125 fold phone extending its mid-range mobile phone line. The Nokia 6125 flip phone features a 1.3 megapixel camera with 8x digital zoom, Bluetooth, media player (MP3, MP4, eAAC+ and WMA), modem (GPRS, EDGE), FM-Tuner and amicroSD slot. |

Medis Technologies developed a disposable fuel cell to power mobile devices on the go, which is supposed to sell under $20. Medis' first consumer Fuel Cell is marketed as a mobile power supply, giving users 30 hour talk time on mobile phones or about 60 hours of music playback on an iPod. Looks like the consumer power pack cannot be refueled. Medis Technologies apparently has a refuel-able power pack for military use. |
Sanyo officially announced the first HD pocket camcorder HD1 in Japan today. Amazon.com has the Sanyo VPC-HD1 already available for pre-order at $799.99. It will ship March 30th. The Sanyo Xacti HD camcorder will be known in Japan as DMX-HD1. In the US it will be called VPC-HD1. The 5.1MP HD1 can record HD video with 720 lines in MPEG-4 onto SD-Cards. The compact digital camcorder features a 10x zoom. |

Vivitar actually introduced a 10MP digital camera dubbed ViviCam X30. The Vivitar ViviCam X30 features 3x optical and an 8x digital zoom, a 2.5 inch screen and video capture of 640x480px at 15 - 30fps. The Vivitar ViviCam X30 is still a while away. Vivitar plans to introduce the X30 the third quarter of 2006. |

Loving The Unlovable
The Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10
|
Zacchaeus was easy to dislike. As a tax collector for an oppressive occupying government, he made himself rich by overcharging his countrymen. Yet, to the consternation of the crowd, Jesus honored him by going to his house and eating with him.
A judge with a reputation for toughness tells how he learned to relate to unlovable people. In a Sunday morning homily his clergyman urged the congregation to try to look at people through the eyes of Jesus.
A few days later the judge was about to give a stiff sentence to an arrogant young man who kept getting in trouble. But then he remembered what the minister had suggested. The judge said, "I looked this young man in the eye and told him I thought he was a bright and talented human being. And then I said to him, 'Let's talk together about how we can get you living in more creative and constructive ways.' We had a surprisingly good conversation."
Jesus saw Zacchaeus as a sinner with an empty hole that only He could fill, and through His kindness Zacchaeus was transformed. The judge could not report any such change, but who knows the long-term outcome? He set a good example for all of us, because he saw the man through the eyes of Jesus. Herb Vander Lugt
We need to see through Jesus' eyes
Our neighbors who are lost;
For then we will reach out to them,
Regardless of the cost. Sper
True compassion will put love into action.
