No, Schumer was thrown in front of the bus, because no other Democrat would do it. Everyone knows Schumer is stupid, so no one took him seriously -- certainly not the New York voters.

For Schumer to become Minority Leader Reid would have to go. I don't think he would go "quietly into the night" or any where else. I didn't realize his leadership was so tenuous. I figure he was a compromise candidate any way between the left and the right with in the Democrat Party.
