WAKE FOREST, N.C. --North Carolina started enforcing its new law intended to stop the spread of methamphetamine labs on Sunday.

Since 1999 the number of meth labs in the state has skyrocketed. Then the State Bureau of Investigation busted nine labs; in 2005 they discovered 328 of them.

As of Jan. 15 you must be at least 18, show photo ID and sign a log if you want to by over-the-counter cold medicines such as Sudafed and Tylenol Cold. Both medicines contain either pseudoephedrine or ephedrine, which are key ingredients used to make meth.

(snip)

Under the new law you can only buy two packages of cold medicine containing pseudoephedrine or ephedrine at a time, and only three packages in a 30-day period.

I made a casserole with kudzu last fall. It was very chewy.

And it grew so fast that the recipe for 4 made 12 servings.

Remember the little spoon-shaped coffee stirrers at McDonalds that really worked? They were apparaently used by druggies so now we have the flat ones that work half as well...

In Denver, many of the "urban" 7-11s and other convenience stores sell these little fake roses in glass tubes for a buck or so. They sell like hotcakes. Turns out these glass tubes make excellent crack pipes.

LOL! I always make 12 servings :-). The leaves are very fibrous. If I cook with kudzu again in the spring, I'll steam the leaves before I use them.

The little spoon things made decent tie-clips too. You'd heat them with a lighter and bend them double and bend the little arches up. (Assistant mgr at a Mickeys in the 70's)

I'm only surprised that they're not making me get a doctor's appointment, wasting my money and my time and the doctor's, just to get a prescription for what's an otc drug for a few sniffles.

Isn't that always the way?

Look at gun control laws.......the only people effected by them are law abiding citizens.

May God bless you, your son, and the surgeons. I take it this was a recent diagnosis?

My Mom works at one of those little gas station-convenience stores. She said a lot of -to put it delicately- rough looking characters (as well as way too many clean cut kids)were CONSTANTLY coming in asking for those Vicks inhalant tube thingies... (Sorry, I cannot remember what they're called (^v^) )

So many, in fact, that they asked one of the town police officers what was up. Sure enough, they were being gutted and used to sniff 'stuff' right out in the open.

They put them under the counter and only sold to folks that asked for them and they either knew personally, or they thought actually needed them for the purpose they were made for.

A little small town justice.

here's really no need to import that chemicals when you can go to Home Depot, Wal-Mart, and a beauty salon and get what you need.

The point I was trying to make, for those of you who are reading impaired, is that the ingredients will NOW come over the border or be sold on the black market after being stolen or obtained from a store owner who wants to make a fast buck. There will be a black market for this stuff and the meth will still get made.

What is accomplished with all these laws is zilch except for creating more criminals.

Either that or the drugs that are being made here will be supplanted by drugs smuggled in, either the ingredients or the drugs themselves will be running up through our national supply route(you know the one named Mexico).

These laws may temporarily slow down meth production, but it won't last, soon things will be back in full swing.

Don't come this way! They're regulating it in Virginia as well. And we have already run into trouble trying to buy two varieties of Sudafed during the same purchase. They even made hubby give his name, address, and signature in order to buy one box of the stuff. I wanted a different variety as my symptoms did not require a pain reliever. They would not let us buy both.
