TWO MONSTERS (Nixzaliz Brown will try to use the bogus Hedda Nussbaum defense)
NY post ^ | January 13, 2006 | John Podhoretz

MY daughter is 19 months old. She weighs 26 pounds. Nixzmary Brown was 7 years old. She weighed 36 pounds. If she had not been murdered by a blunt trauma to her skull in the Bedford-Stuyvesant apartment that was at once her home and her torture chamber (complete with child's chair with ropes), Nixzmary might have died of starvation sooner or later.

It appears her torturer, rapist and murderer was her stepfather, Cesar Rodriguez. Of course, Rodriguez could have done none of these things to Nixzmary had her mother, Nixzaliz, done something to stop it.

Twenty years ago, the murder of 6-year-old Lisa Steinberg at the hands of her adoptive father horrified the city and the nation. And then, grotesquely, the nature of the outrage at Lisa's death was directed elsewhere. The focus shifted away from Lisa and toward her mother, Hedda Nussbaum.

She, too, could have intervened to save her daughter's life. But she and her lawyers claimed that Nussbaum was just too battered, beaten and psychologically abused to stand up to Joel Steinberg. We were asked — no, we were instructed — to think of Hedda Nussbaum as a victim, not as an accessory to the death of a child.

Her brilliant lawyer, Barry Scheck, staged a media rally for Nussbaum. The extent of the injuries she suffered at Steinberg's hands were lovingly and luridly detailed. A quote from a social worker to the effect that she was the most battered woman the social worker had ever seen was incessantly retailed.

In the end, the fashionable idea that a 45-year-old woman bore no responsibility for the death of a child in her care took hold. She was not prosecuted for her role in Lisa's death. Instead, Nussbaum

Hedda Nussbaum no longer dealing with spousal abuse. Meanwhile, Lisa Steinberg remains dead.

World-class scum-bag Joel Steinberg, having sufficiently paid his debt to society, ejoying another day when he is not dead or in prison. Cesar Rodriguez is, what, 30? He will be free in his late 40's.

It's difficult to believe that twenty years have gone by since Lisa Steinberg was so brutally murdered.

I remember that story so well because my daughter and Lisa were born the same year. I couldn't imagine that little girl living with those two monsters and the horrors she endured most of her terribly short life. I've thought of Lisa many times these past twenty years.

By the way, the Barry Scheck in this story is the same Barry Scheck on O J Simpson's dream team. Some have no shame.

Needless to say, the context of that sentence came out wrong but you get my point.

I don't buy this crap. She let it happen. She knew he didn't like the child because he belonged to another man. She chose this scumbag over her own child. She's sad, too late sister!!! I can't think of a torture that would be severe enough for this piece of trash.

I read this editorial in the Post last Friday. It reminded me of the scene in the movie "Liar Liar."

"You're the victim here!"

is it not a crying shame how quick people are to come to the rescue of a young beautiful girl now that she is dead rather than seeing her and watch her , listening to twhat was being said and now they all what to try to help!! The Mother of all people should have been the first to step up to the plate and go to bat for her daughters life, than came the neighbors, teachers and ACS workers who saw the girl and talked to the girl, They all will have to suffer knowing they did nothing to help this helpless child. The death will and should be put in their hands.....

The function of wisdom is to discriminate between good and evil.

Alright guys here is the deal:
Hedda Nussbaum was abused for nearly ten years. Contrary to popular belief, she tried to leave time and time again. She went to a hospital near where she lived THE VERY FIRST time she was abused (that is, hit; the physical abuse started far after the psychological). She told the doctor that her boyfriend had hit her, and then fearing what he would do if he found out, told the doctor “never mind”. The doctor crossed off that note and asked no more questions.
Shelters sent her to hospitals, who called her husband to pick her up. When she called her father to help her, Joel arrived home while she was packing and beat her severely, and then demanded she tell her father not to worry. She tried to leave 6 times before Lisa was killed.
This man wouldn’t let her sleep or eat. He beat her to the point of near death multiple times. He wouldn’t let her leave their home or allow people close.
I’m not sure why this is hard to understand, but there was nothing wrong with Hedda. She reacted as anyone would who was treated this way. Joel Steinberg is a monster, a monster who had three victims; the infant tied to his bed with string, the woman who tried to leave time and again until she found out that no one would help her, and of course the young child that did nothing wrong but who was beaten to death by a man with no soul.
I cried when I first heard this story, but I find it amazing that the tragic death of young Lisa probably inadvertently saved the lives of her mother and brother.
I hear Joel Steinberg is getting a cable tv show. Where’s the justice in that?

I’m sorry, but what a crock of bs! I lived in an abusive relationship for 7 years. I suffered many things including rape at my husbands hands. I even took many beatings that would have otherwise been inflicted on my daughter. But what I did NOT EVER DO is lay there and freebase with my husband for 6 hours while my child lay dying a few feet away. The second my ex actually did touch her i waited till he passed out and I took my child and RAN FAR AWAY! I dont care how bad it got, there is no excuse for what she did except that she was a pig drug addict who is just as guilty as her scum husband. THey are human waste, parasites and monsters and they BOTH deserve to be tortured to death. Now she gets to write a book and make money off this poor little girls murder!? I hope she dies.
