Ever since a fellow freeper noticed that the photo of a supposed "missle" was actually a 155mm artillery shell, it appeared something was just not right. At the same time in the same province the Pakistani military was shelling a villiage.
Is it possible that allies in the war on terror are offering political cover for one another?
To see what a real missle looks like- In early December, another missle attack occured in Pakistan and remnants of that missle appear in this photo

That's pretty close. The round I saw in the NYT picture had a more rounded snout, perhaps due to impact. Also, I could swear there was a slightly different profile, more squat. But that round is very close, and a better match than anything else I saw.

The definition in the post in question includes the secondary definition that a missile is self-propelled. They intentionally disguised the fact that what is pictured is NOT that. The whole discussion is about whether this is a projectile fired from a gun or a self-propelled missile or rocket launched from an aerial platform. That's the precise point of this thread. These differences make a difference in this context. Apparently, the problem with YOUR movement is you'll justify the misuse of words to ignorantly mischaracterize or intentionally distort issues. Either that, or you don't care about the differences and are willing to let them get away with it.

the whole point of the original poster was wrong Discussing the semantics of a word wasn't the point of my original thread, despite that many took up on that. The argument along those lines was entirely quoted from another blog. It was a reference post. My own post was based on an observation of the projectile itself, whether we want to call it a missile or some other.

Thanks for putting this back up on the boards. I actually wasn't aware of the fact that the Pakistani military was shelling a villiage in the same province at the same time. Very interesting!

Were you the one who started that first thread? If so it was like "NY Times Wrong again" right?

Yes, I posted it and that was the title. I wish the mods could have just pulled the pic instead of the whole thread.

Glad we found you. Not a big deal, but I remmember all the "I was first with "Soreloserman" and so and so was first to notice the "th" on Dan Rathers fake docs. Just wanted to make sure you got some props.
BTW-Kinda strange how the Pakistani military was shelling in the same area, at the same time this happened. Remmember me if that line of thinking goes anywhere...maybe I'll get a coookie LOL

It doesn't look like a U.S. manufacture shell.
It also seems to have a shipping plug in it still.

It doesn't look like a U.S. manufacture shellIt isn't. It's a 152mm Soviet dud leftover from their Afganistan adventure.
