OK, now fast forward twenty-five years.
Last week I had a conversation with the handyman that does some repairs for me occasionally and he told me he was leaving his wife of thirty years.
He said that since he turned fifty and his libido started to slow down he has become increasingly irritated with his wife's selfish attitude. He said he realized that not once in their marriage has she ever apologized for her behavior. It's always been up to him apologize to her even though he did nothing wrong.
Last month she ruined a weekend getaway just because he walked in front of her on the way to the hotel room and it dawned on him that he did not want to spend his remaining years with this inconsiderate, self absorbed woman.
The divorce papers have been served.
This sound suspiciously like a wife who ACTUALLY TELLS YOU WHAT SHE WANTS!!!
I have plenty of two word responses for that sort of occurance, but find it more difficult to correctly guess what she is thinking.
You can deal with the devil wife with an FU or a simple "no."
If I may say so... and it's a safe bet given the rancor on the thread, this is the kind of article that only creates strife and flame wars on this forum. It's good sport to watch, maybe, but detrimental to the cause of actually improving communication between men and women. There's a lot of people that have an axe to grind against the opposite sex. Don't buy into it!
I'm in a little late, but here goes.
Though I'm not an authority on marriage, the best I've seen involve complementary relationships -- one partner is slightly oppposite the other in personality. Someone more shy and reticent does better with someone outgoing, and vice versa. Passive and aggressive -- IN MODERATION.
I emphasize that last part, because I find that the extremes in personality types & temperaments always seem to lead to problems. Unfortunately, someone with a difficult or abusive personality will seek out a submissive or immature type. The dynamics are very unhealthy.
Not only men do this. As this article implies, there are plenty of "devil wives" around. I knew a woman who was paranoid & volatile; she married someone extremely nebby & effeminate. Maybe their marriage works, as long as the husband doesn't grow. He may reach a point where he can't take his wife's mood changes or domineering manner.
Also, I worry for their kids. I lost touch with this woman; I don't know if she's even still married. But I wondered if she is ever violent to her children. I've seen that pattern, too -- one abusive parent, the other detached & ineffectual.
