Phil Sands, 28, a freelance journalist, was held by gunmen who ambushed his car in Baghdad. He said the worst aspect of his ordeal was imagining the anguish of his family. But his parents were holidaying in Morocco and knew nothing of his sufferings until he called them after he was released during a chance raid by US forces on a farm outside Baghdad.Sands: "Mother, I've just been rescued by the Americans. Great chaps, really. Didn't lose my head or anything."
Mother: "That's nice dear. Father and I will speak with you later. Just now we're off to the market for some fresh figs."

Isn't it. To be missing for days and no one cares enough about you to notice you're gone. Very sad.

Yes indeed. His employer should have known his whereabouts being there are kidnappings there. If I were he, I'd start looking for a new job.

He was freelance, no boss.

Surely he must have had some friends there, some sort of contacts. Either way, he is very blessed to be alive right now!

Someone should have known about him. He had to come in contact with someone. Maybe he'll rethink his freelance option.

He's a freelance journalist - he's his own boss.
I expect he had a long conversation with himself while in captivity.
