NEW YORK A new sex-oriented business is opening not far from his home outside New York City, and actor Stephen Baldwin is promisiing to stop it, possibly with the help of newspaper ads.
One of the family of Baldwin brother (Alex, Billy, Daniel) actors, Stephen Baldwin has become known as a Christian activist. His home near Nyack, N.Y., has a sign bearing scripture right on his front lawn.
Baldwin, 39, stood outside the "adult entertainment" shop and photographed workers and their vehicles as they got the store ready to open, according to an account in the Journal-News of White Plains, N.Y.
Baldwin told the paper he planned to stand outside the store every day and photograph the license plates of the store's patrons to aid in tracking down their identities. He vowed to take out a full-page newspaper advertisement once a month to publish those names.
"I won't stop until it shuts down," he said. He has said the store will attract crime, lower property values and hurt the quality of life in the largely middle-class town, which is known as something of an artist's enclave.
"I don't want it this close to my house," Baldwin, who lives about a mile away, told the paper. "I'm personally not OK with pornography. I definitely think that it adds to the moral decay or our culture."
Local police "responded to the property last night after Baldwin called them about 9:30 p.m.," the newspaper related. "He said the workers were giving him a hard time for taking photographs. Police told Baldwin he was free to protest and take photographs as long as he was not on the store's property."
AWREC BARDWIN
Well done good and faithful servant.
Hmm, what to say? I do feel sorry for the guy, beinge No-so-smart-Alec's brother and all, and I empathize with his fight, but his tactic seems silly at best.
I remember late-1800's era feminists doing the same thing at brothels, and publishing names in newspapers...
But it's OK if it was about a mile away from someone else's house?
Messing with the employees is not cool, in my book. I know a few people who have worked at pr0n shops (no, I didn't meet them through "business dealings), and their work is mostly cashier stuff. They're just looking for a steady paycheck and benefits.
"I won't stop until it shuts down,"
Yeah, ah....good luck with that one. Snicker.
He's come a long way since "Threesome"
LOL You know that has to be embarrassing for those people. What a great way to fight it. Baldwin is putting his faith into action. I wish his brothers would become Christians too. I'm surprised that one of them hasn't already stared in a Porn flick, and I mean "hard" core. I know most of the movies they make are "soft" porn. At least to me they are.
There are plenty of places where that can be found besides working in a porn shop.
The pay scale at those places is pretty good, given the necessary skill set.
Steve is an alright person...and tries to do the right thing it seems...
He also seems to have most of his family against him...and certainly the majority of Hollywood..
He's gutsy and luckily the cops there seem to also be pretty decent.
Would that there were more like him..
I ask God's protection on him and his family.
I guess that "acting" thing isn't really working out much these days, eh?
Wouldn't be for me... Mind you, when I visit a porn shop, it's usually because my wife asked to go.
Hey, if he goes through with it and publishes the names every week in the local paper, it will be a very effective technique. It will be the most eagerly awaited part of the Nyack News (or whatever they call it).
It's kinda a drag having to spend all your time sitting in a car photographing the license plates of pathetic losers, though. Not much of a life...
You must be only slightly older than me.
He's made some stuff he's really not proud of anymore....
I sure am glad I don't have anything embarassing in my past...
