Al-Qaida's second-in-command was not at the site of a U.S. airstrike on a Pakistan village near the Afghan border that killed at least 17 people, two senior Pakistani officials said Saturday.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject, said that Pakistan's own investigation concluded that Ayman al-Zawahri was not in the village of Damadola.
"Their information was wrong, and our investigations conclude that they acted on a false information," said a senior intelligence official who has direct knowledge of the investigations launched by Pakistan to look into the attacks.
Separately, a senior government official told AP that al-Zawahri was not present at the homes which were attacked.
"He was not there, and this is what we know after a detailed probe" into the incident, he said.
Pakistan's government was expected to formally issue its reaction on the attack later Saturday.
Hmmm, was there a little red truck anywhere in the picture with a vanity plate: 'JRENO' ?
Maybe trying to evoke sympathy for AQ from the PETA crowd??
LOL
what if all this turns out to be someones still blewup, and the dodging of responsiblity for even making hooch has led to this ;-)
Yes, expected...
Don't believe everything you read.
Doh! Why didn't I think of that? (grin)
Maybe I didn't get my point across. If your house was in the bombed area, you would not be able to make that statement because you would be a crispy critter, so you would logically have to be at another location during the bombing. If you are at another location, you cannot definitively make a statement that says Zawahiri was not at the location at the time of the bombing unless you knew him to be at another location at that time through other intelligence. Asking the locals if they have seen Zawahiri recently will get you the same answer every time. Zawawho?
Expected...Musharaf has to cover his rear end; appear to stand up to the rascal Americans; denounce the violation of Paki soveringty; pacify the anti U.S. element in his goverment etc. WH and State must be hard at work behind closed doors reassuring Musharaf to hang tough.
That's right, he's not at the sight... he's uniformly distributed about the sight in a concentric circle.
And I hear he's among an ever increasing group of Arabs with "blue eyes", as in "one blew this way and the other blew that way."
LOL
blue eyes...is that like summer teeth? Summer teeth went this way...summer teeth went that way...
I really hope that SOB was in fact one of the five corpses carried away from the rubble before the Pakistani army arrived since it would really make my day if the CIA had finally greased his sorry arse!
I just wrote this to one of my lib friends:

By the way, Karl Rove is visiting here for the weekend with another old dirty trickster, Donald Segretti. Donald even brought his old VW bug with all the McDonald's and candy bar wrappers all over the floor and seats ........ that little black car which he tooled around in back in '72.
As the snow begins to fall, we're just sitting around here in the kitchen over muffins and apricot preserves planning on "offing" this Clinton appointee who called for this misplaced bombing strike in Pakistan.
Damn these troublesome Democrat leftovers..... anything to screw G.W.
;-)
****
That's right. What do you call an al Qaeda hero with balls of steel?
Sparky.
This is exactly the case -
Enjoying the "beach?"
;-)

War is hell and they started it.
"He said the planes' targets were three houses, all belonging to jewelry dealers."
They forgot the last part of the sentence: 'Jewelry dealers that BELONG TO AL QAEDA.'
