Al-Qaida's second-in-command was not at the site of a U.S. airstrike on a Pakistan village near the Afghan border that killed at least 17 people, two senior Pakistani officials said Saturday.
The officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the subject, said that Pakistan's own investigation concluded that Ayman al-Zawahri was not in the village of Damadola.
"Their information was wrong, and our investigations conclude that they acted on a false information," said a senior intelligence official who has direct knowledge of the investigations launched by Pakistan to look into the attacks.
Separately, a senior government official told AP that al-Zawahri was not present at the homes which were attacked.
"He was not there, and this is what we know after a detailed probe" into the incident, he said.
Pakistan's government was expected to formally issue its reaction on the attack later Saturday.
Disinformation?????.....if the bad guys think he's alive, but they can't contact him..they may become desperate, make a stupid move...make it easier to find other cells.
Thats too bad. But the message that we are on his butt is reinforced, again. The significance here is that we bombed inside Pakistan. "You can run but you can't hide."
Wow....they sure are fast with the detailed probe results. I will await to hear the results from our own trusted sources before I will believe the Pakistanis.
Lots of possibilities, of course...

that was awful quick
I hope the stench of his own fear is with him 24 hours a day...until we do him.
I agree. About 18 months ago the Pakistanis were claiming that they had killed #2. I can think of several reasons why they would want to deny this, nothing good could come from them letting the US take out this Islam hero on their turf.
I'll wait for the US report. But will the US even get the truth from our allies.
Doesn't the AP seem relieved.
"nothing to see here folks, move along"
I saw a report earlier that mentioned that locals had removed the bodies of five foreigners from the rubble and hidden them. I wonder if they've been found.
it ok for subfilth to lie to infidiles, and they do it all the time
That would be my take. I'll wait for the DNA confirmation before taking this one at face value. Fingers crossed that they got him.

thats what I read too, this AP is garbage
That's interesting. You recall where you saw that report?
YUP..and if it take s few weeks..well, W can announce it at the SOTU..
If we're lucky, we at least got a few terrorists and terrorist enablers.
This guy has more lives than a cat.
I believe that it was an earlier AP story at Yahoo! The story appears to have gone missing, at least from the front page. I'll look a bit more...
