(01-13) 17:55 PST Auburn, Calif. (AP) -- Three people were arrested Friday on suspicion that they plotted to blow up U.S. Forest Service property along with cell phone towers and power generators, the FBI said.
Zachary O. Jenson, 20, of Monroe, Wash., Lauren Weiner, 20, of Philadelphia, and Eric Taylor McDavid, 28, of Foresthill, Calif., were arrested Friday morning, said Karen Ernst of the FBI.
Federal authorities believe all three are members of the Earth Liberation Front, a shadowy collection of environmental activists that has claimed responsibility for dozens of acts of destruction in the past few years.
Matt Mathes, spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service, said he couldn't comment on the investigation, at the FBI's request. The FBI said there was no threat to the public. The three were being held in jail pending arraignment in federal court on Monday. Ernst said she did not believe they had attorneys.

I remember several years ago, when the Mad Cow disease scare was in Britian, PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk saying (paraphase, not a direct quote) that she hoped the disease would come to the U.S. and spread throught he farming industry here.
My greatest fear is these animals will eventually graduate from arson, and other similar crimes, into bioterror.
"...a shadowy collection of environmental activists..."
"Shadowy collection," my Aunt Tilly! These terrorists are well funded and well organized. Thanks for saving me the time to look up all the ELF stuff, Issaquahking!
Good to know that ELF has been infiltrated by FBI undercover agents.
Isn't it odd that most people just won't believe these eco-terrorists exist, that the Humane Society (HSUS) doesn't operate animal shelters, and that PETA does nothing for animals?
If they are found guilty, I hope they gat a life sentence witout a chance or release.
PA Engineer, a quick google reveals that Lauren Weiner is a fairly common name, but given her age she could be the one. I'm still researching it. Good catch!
I pinged the rest of yall back here because this article offers a possible tie-in with some of the other recent eco-terror busts:
Investigators believe the group may have some loose affiliation with a group of Newscastle residents charged in a series of ELF-motivated incidents beginning in 2004.
Last year, four people allegedly affiliated with ELF were charged with conspiracy and attempted arson in the attempted firebombing of houses under construction at the Twin Bridges housing development in Lincoln.
Last November, Eva Holland, 25, and her sister Lili Holland, 20, of Newcastle each pleaded guilty to one count of attempted arson in connection with the December 2004 incident. Ryan Lewis, 22, also of Newcastle, entered a guilty plea to two counts of attempted arson and one count of arson. The three are scheduled to be sentenced January 27.
A fourth defendant, 24-year-old Jeremiah Colcleasure awaits trial in connection with the case.
Eva Holland and Lewis were also charged in the January 12 attempted arson of a business complex in Auburn. Part of the plea agreement called for prosecutors to drop charges against Holland in that case.
Lewis was also charged with arson in the February 2005 firebombing of a Sutter Creek apartment complex.

Thanks for the heads up. I have very little doubt that most of these people are connected in some way, at least loosely. The ones I know of have college educations and come from the West or Northwest, which is where the crimes have been committed. It sure would be nice if the ones they've nailed just keep ratting out more. The domino effect.
Billhilly,
Can you answer PA Engineer's question?
Send them to Gitmo!
Sorry, I don't know what post you are referring to.
Check out post 27 and 29.
By the time I get this one posted the question could already have been answered. Interesting questions, though.
They had a contact place via the net in Portland and the LE siezed their computers a few years back with a search warrent.
I also use to get their Newsletters e mailed to me (Faux interest) and they stopped coming about a year ago.
Remember Tree who fled up to Canada to avoid prosecution down in the PNW for eco terror? They were his supporters to free him.
They did say once the computers were siezed it pretty much stopped their opperations as no funds to buy new puters.
They basically acted as a report center for eco terrorists to send in their crimes commited.
Hey they have a new newsletter.
I must not have made it to the new mailing list.

Oh the link I gave you was to another ELF organization.
It is not the PNW ELF organization.
I can't remember his name, but for some reason I seem to recall there was a connection to Oregon ELF.
Any help is appreciated.
