Schwarzenegger's re - election chances up
The Argus ^ | Jan. 13, 2005 | Steve Geissinger

A recent poll shows the born-again "moderate" Republican governor has gained back some popularity, especially in the Bay Area, and is now in a dead heat with Democratic competitors.

"Our survey demonstrates that Schwarzenegger's retreat from the more conservative rhetoric and agenda he brandished during the latter part of 2005 has paid off among middle-of-the road voters," said Melinda Jackson, director of the Survey and Policy Research Institute at San Jose State University.

The governor's job performance rating among voters in a Democrat-leaning state has climbed from 36 percent positive and 53 percent negative in September, to 40 percent positive and 51 percent negative this month.

That kind of elitism ain't going on just in California. Of course, those same elites prefer liberal Democrats to right-of-center Republicans in office, anyhow. Perhaps it is time to form our own party for the people, how 'bout calling it the REPUBLICAN party ? ;-)

"So the Republicans keep running ultraconservatives with zero charisma and they keep losing. Then they do it again and again."

Who are these ultraconservatives, oh delusional one ? Oh, wait... you mean McClintock, the HIGHEST VOTE GETTER FOR THE REPUBLICANS IN 2002 ?

Funny you didn't include THIS article:

Surging revenues highlight governor's budget (Schwarzenegger, CA)

California's tax revenues are surging ahead of expectations, giving an election-year jolt to the state budget and providing more money for public schools, health services and higher education, according to a budget proposed Tuesday by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The governor, a Republican, revealed a $125.6 billion spending plan for the 2006-2007 fiscal year that does not raise taxes while providing a 7 percent boost in spending over this fiscal year.

The plan also marks the first time in several years that the state projects enough tax revenue to cover spending without significant borrowing, a reversal from budget deficits that reached into the billions before Schwarzenegger took office.

Among its highlights, the governor's spending plan:

Does not raise taxes.

Reduces the state's structural deficit by more than two-thirds, from $16.5 billion when Schwarzenegger took office in 2003 to $4.7 billion in the next fiscal year.

True, they turned out in numbers to be expected. The DEMS outnumber us, remember that, keep repeating it to yourself and maybe you will get it. Also, people(republicans) are not pleased with Arnolds performance, a republican should hold to republican values. I am tired of Arnold lovers trying to tell us that the republican base is causing his problems. Arnold is causing Arnolds problems, period.

I don't get the impression that you are so much pro-Arnold as you are pro-progress, which no dem will EVER provide.

Nope.

Just keep doing what we're doing. Everytime a CAGOP shill like FairOpinon shows up on a conservative form, treat them to an exorcism.

Sooner or later the electorate will figure out that the king has no clothing and we'll toss the bumbs out.

In the meantime, keep flashing your wooden cross in the face of these shills.

You're right, I didn't include it--because Revenues AREN'T surging! I'm waiting for the media to acknowledge that the revenue increases are largely the result of Arnold introducing a tax amnesty program thereby receiving (temporary) tax collections, the majority of which will have to be paid back in future years. This is clearly exposed in the Legislative Analyst's Report published yesterday, the same Analyst who says Arnold's budget is moving in the wrong direction. (It is also also discussed in the threads on the recommended reading list I gave you).

And in true liberal (and Gray Davis) fashion, he is proposing to use those dollars to fund recurring state social programs, including 1/2 Billion for his Prop 49 After-school-programs (Government Babysitting).

Control yourself. Don't repond. FairOpinion is one of the few people in California that doesn't understand the "no taxes" and "surging revenue" myths being promoted by Schwarzenegger.

Also, whatever you do, don't suggest that FairOpinon read the LAO report. She might melt. We'd only be left with her ruby slippers.

I was going to add the "news" topic to this thread to lure in the RNC shills but someone already beat me to it.

Rats!

So the Republicans keep running ultraconservatives with zero charisma and they keep losing. Then they do it again and again.

But you are missing the part where we also keep nominating ultra liberal Republicans who can't win either. "They do it again and again." I could offer even more convincing arguments that it's the nomination of moderates like Tom Campbell and Gary Mendoza and Ruben Barrales and Michael Huffington and John Seymour and Matt Fong that is causing us to lose elections.

Hey, now, doncha know that in FO's little freakshow world, if a Republican ain't to the left of Pete McCloskey, they're just an unelectable ultraconservative who can't win because 495% of the California electorate won't vote for 'em ! And don't ever question the great FO because he's such a big expert on political history and all ! Bwahahahahahaha !!!

So you'd vote McClintock for Lt Gov and for Gov....a dem? Or abstain for gov, which means...a dem?

The question appears sincere so I'll offer a sincere perspective in reponse.

I see little downside in voting for the most conservative candidate, regardless of party registartion, under the present circumstances in California. A blue dog Democrat would be a welcome relief from a liberal Republican under the cicumstances.

Thanks Calcowgirl, it is mind numbing to see what CA has turned into since I was a young man, at that time you could wear a sidearm openly, could state your mind without being labeled racist or a hate mongerer. AND, republicans won elections in CA, now the state is overun with rinos and liberals who only yearn for the destrucion of the American constitution and the way of life we have held dear since 1776.

Thanks to guys like Aaaanold we have no chance of regaining power unless we can convince the entitlement folks of the cities that the dimwits hold no cure for them, but only the dark pits of dispair.

We also need to convince the fools who think Arnold is a real republican that such isn't so, if he were he would be embracing republican values regardless of the cost to him politically.

McClintock has until March 10th to declare for the Governorship. I think it's time we wrote and urged him to switch races.
