Schwarzenegger's re - election chances up
The Argus ^ | Jan. 13, 2005 | Steve Geissinger

A recent poll shows the born-again "moderate" Republican governor has gained back some popularity, especially in the Bay Area, and is now in a dead heat with Democratic competitors.

"Our survey demonstrates that Schwarzenegger's retreat from the more conservative rhetoric and agenda he brandished during the latter part of 2005 has paid off among middle-of-the road voters," said Melinda Jackson, director of the Survey and Policy Research Institute at San Jose State University.

The governor's job performance rating among voters in a Democrat-leaning state has climbed from 36 percent positive and 53 percent negative in September, to 40 percent positive and 51 percent negative this month.

Again, refusing to answer the question. I may be demanding, but I'm not running away from the debate...that would be you.

By concentrating on money only, the Ahhhhhhnold claw of the California GOP has dug its own grave. You call it a hole. What Diff?

Assuming Ahhhhhnold is renominated and re-elected, what do you do for an encore when he is term-limited? Nominate Maria? Nominate Maria's Uncle Ted---after all he IS a celebrity. California has plenty of Scotch and starlets. How could Uncle Ted turn down even the GOP nomination? I am trying to imagine his policy differences or social behavior differences freom Ahhhhhnold. All I come up with is that the Gropinator is a better driver and does not have Teddy's rep for drinking.

All Ahhhhnold is good for is a full-employment plan for California Mugwump "moderate" Republicans and contracts for Parsky's pals. Neither is "winning" for actual Republicans. Employing the Republicrats actually helps them politically by fat wages for no work. Likewise taxpayer-funded contracts. What are the OTHER alleged "successes" of Planned Barrenhood Wilson/ Lavender Louie/ Warren Buffett/ RINO Reardon /Ahhhhnoldism to the GOP, much less than to conservatives.

Ahhhhnold won because he had a clear shot at Greyout Davis in California's worst crisis to date. He hasn't accomplished used food since. There was NO partisan primary or he would not have been on the ballot at the end. Now he has the somewhat advantage of incumbency. As the Good Book says, all this too shall pass away. The more I think this through, it is almost worth re-electing Musclehead (which is precisely what this windtunnel of a governor is) to remove him permanently but it won't take that. Republicans WILL have their party back from Parsky/Wilson/Buffett/Ahhhhhnold and the other phonies.

Ahhhhhnold IS unquestionably a RINO, not because I call him one but because he is one. He is a true successor to Earl Warren.

Is there some way or fault line that could dump the lib areas into the Pacific while saving the good areas of California? If not, Nevada land is cheap now compared to its future value as coastline. God bless you and yours!

Alia, forget these people...they are true California Conservatives...and I admire them for that...however, their tunnel vision prohibits them from viewing the reality of the situation, as you stated in your post. There's no debating with them...believe me, I know. Even thought history and the facts are on our side, they just won't give up. In a way I don't blame them...if you're going to choose to live in the most liberal State in the Union, I guess you need to believe there's hope. However, we know different.

Note the pattern here.

BlackElk was holding off the Republican mob on his own. The fighting was hand to hand but BlackElk just kept pitching with his right hand while holding his nose with his left.

Then you arrived to assist and the Republicans melted back into their lairs. Must be powerful medicine you posses or, like mice, Republicans scurry around in the shadows, fearful of the light, always fleeing when confronted.

CF: See Amerigomag's #173 for the real answer. Also, succes will be achieved by hard work among people of modest means and hard-core morality, door-to-door, one on one in the places where the GOP is usually too, ummmm, refined to go. Money and commercials by limp elitists does not do what hard-core organizing does. Ground war of the modest folk beats the air war of the affluent airheded and lazy any time it is really tried. Purge the party of Muffy and Skipper and the polo club/ yacht club trust fund babies and go socially conservative and you may discover that most Californians are not hot tub denizens (especially with the cost of energy under libs) or even social behavior exotic flora and fauna.

California politics is a bit more complex than your unipolar matrix of putting everything on an impervious left to right psephological continuum, with an unelectable cut off point where one doesn't have a sufficiently moderate profile however that is defined. Issues change, events occur, personalities matter.

As a little anecdote, I happen to know three voters who voted against the Davis recall, and then voted for McClintock in the event the recall was successful. Oh dear, how is your little matrix going to deal with that?

That's how we used to successfully do it!

Candidates need to get rid of "campaign consultants".

In one conversation I had with a consultant I stated that door to door and targeted mailings were the way to win elections and that TV was not only expensive but a waste of money.

He actually agreed with me and then stated that if he ran a campaign on my basis it would take him full time to do it but if he ran a TV and media campaign he only had to work about 2 hours a week and make more money per campaign.

We used to put together enough people to hit every precinct in a district in the last 2 weeks before the election and if a district was 39% Republican we considered it a winner, and it worked.

In recent years the democraps have understood what we were doing and have copied it and been successfull.

Since the big money country club Republican RINOS have taken control of the state party it's gone all to consultants and cut out the conservative Republican clubs that provided the on the ground people and we now can't win an election unless there is a majority of registered Republicans in the district.
