he President met with Germany's new Chancellor Angela Merkel in the Oval Office today, they spoke about a wide range of issues including Iran, Iraq, Ariel Sharon and Club GITMO in Cuba. After their meeting in the Oval Office the two leaders held a press conference East room of the White House. The President also hosted a visit to the Oval Office by the U.S. Solheim Cup womens Golf Team. The President also met with Business leaders in the Oval Office to discuss relief efforts in Central America
Hee-hee...I think you're right! I'll bet it is the same dream, too!
I thought that was the greatest saying for a bumper sticker - so I got one!
Wow...the AmericansForRice link doesn't work anymore - darn.
Wow! I would love to have one of those! Think I'll check out that website and try to order one! Woohoo!
Just checked...I don't think the website is still current. :o(
As for Merkel, I read elsewhere on FR that she wasn't exactly supportive of the WOT and Gitmo. Know any solid info on that?
I admire how President Bush shows respect to others even if he doesn't agree with them.
One last comment.. she reminds me a little of a cross between harriet Myers & Putin's wife..
outta here!
Yah, I've Googled images and websites - nothing. Darn.
Hi Mike. So grateful for the Friday edition. Thanks.
It is with delight that I type, Goodbye, Herr Schroeder!
Oh, well...we tried! :o) Maybe they'll bring it up again when it gets closer to the election.
Maybe that goes with being a Raaangggger.
A few words about the new German leader.

New chancellor comes to call
excerpts
Mrs. Merkel ... is not only the first woman chancellor but the first ever in all German history to wield real political power. A trained physicist, she is the first natural scientist at the head of government and brings new analytical skills to the job. Perhaps most important both for her aptitude for reform policies and her attitude toward America, she is the first chancellor from the eastern part of Germany, the former communist area, to reach the very top in any field since Germany was reunified in 1990.
Mrs. Merkel is unpretentious, cautious and lacks charisma. She can come across as a cool customer. Her training as a physicist leads her to approach politics analytically. She is very pragmatic, examines empirical data carefully, masters her officials' briefs in detail, and reaches her conclusions based on carefully a reasoned, deliberate assessment of where she wants to come out and how to get there.
She has one great psychological advantage advancing her government's top domestic priority, drastic reform of Germany's stagnant economy. Her willingness to effect change stems from her East German background. Like everyone coming from the communist East, after reunification she suddenly had to develop an aptitude for adjusting to huge economic and political transformation of every aspect of life and society.
Her East German origins account too for her positive attitude toward America.
Virtually alone among German leaders two years ago, she backed the Iraq war. Her government has set itself the goal of repairing relations with Washington, badly damaged under the government of Gerhard Schroeder.
The Bush administration can use friends like Mrs. Merkel in Europe. It should listen carefully to the first woman to become a major player on the German political scene, who has already displayed the potential to do likewise on the European scene.
Hi tiggs. Pls see post 34 re Merkel and the war in Iraq.
Thank you. Guess I should re-check the root sources of the articles earlier read on FR..?
Some days there is so much info to be absorbed on FR and elsewhere that it can become hard to keep track of it all.
"Maybe he was thinking about how nice it was going to be to get to go to Camp David this weekend! LOL!"
LOL! Maybe you're right...and look at Laura in that pic where they are leaving for Camp David...I love the way she looks at him. Barbara looks kind of like she's thinking "oh geez why did I agree to go with them...look at them!" lol sorry I had to say that...hope I don't get in trouble ;-)
Merkel was critisizing us before she got here re: Gitmo and Iraq...but, what do you want to bet she is tempted to change her mind after being around the Bush she say today in Wash....
Hiya Mike - thanks for the dose tonight!
