This is just a trial. If nobody shows up, I´ll leave it with that. :-)

The President talks about the "common values" between our countries. He points out that they´ve talked about a diplomatic solution of the Iran crisis, and the WOT. Bush explained Merkel that out there´s an enemy, who hides, and that the US will share informations about the threats.

Bush thanked Merkel for the participation in Afghanistan. The discussion about Iraq showed differences, but both wish a stable and democratic Iraq.

They wish Israeli PM blessings, he shall recover soon.

Bush talked about the economy, and he says there´s a lot of cooperation and common goals between Germany and the US. This dialogue shall be the start of a new chapter in our relationship, a good chapter.

Now it´s Merkel´s turn: Germany wants to strengthen its economy. To meet the challenges of the globalization, Germany and the US must work together.

So far, the climate seems to be excellent, they both look often in each others eyes (no ´ignoring´ look).

Merkel wants to intensify the dialogue with the US, extend the cooperation on international security and says the cooperation regarding Iran is encouraging.

Mr. Bush is a different president from Clinton and I think the Europeans are still not quite clear on what those differences are.

What you see is what you get. If he says something, it's not posturing...he means it. It's confusing to many Europeans, but it's one of the reasons he got re-elected, and remains popular enough to govern in a very difficult political environment.

I sense that Merkel may recognize this. I think that generally, women are better at reading people than men are. If Merkel reads Bush accurately, there WILL be a new ear of cooperation between two countries who should share many common ideals.

Hi Michael! I think Chancellor Merkel will be a very good improvement for your country and for freedom-loving people everywhere. I hope she can help with the German economy too.

Now Bush answers a question on Guantanamo. Merkel wants more judicial control, like a tribunal. The President says there won´t be changes and maintain the camps, "in which the people are treated in a human manner".

Merkel: "We openly talked about this issue. I share the perceiption of the danger going out of terrorism. We need to think about the way we want to treat terrorists. I wished the UN would be a place to discuss such things, which isn´t right now. ... I see a common base on which we can talk the questionable details, and that is good."

well since the Germans were MIA when it came time to invade Iraq;
all I want to know is if Germany will support any actions against Iran?

otherwise they can keep their Mercedes...

Thanks for the thread, Michael. It seems that the President has more differences with the press corps than he does with Chancellor Merkel.

Bush welcomes the step that Iran will be brough to the UN SC. "It´s part of a diplomatic mechanism.... It´s not acceptable that Iran develops nuclear weapons. ... Countries like Germany and the US have the task to tell Iran that. ... Germany has played a significant role in this process, and I thank the Chancellor for continuing. ... We want peace, we want to stop Iran getting nukes. The Iranian President calls for the destruction of Israel, this is inacceptable, and having nuclear weapons will contribute to achieving this goal."
