Harry Belafonte in interview yesterday Following an appearance at a luncheon with Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., yesterday, entertainer Harry Belafonte defended his description of President Bush as the world's worst terrorist, insisting he only was being truthful and was prompting the press to cover a "side of the agenda" it ignores.
Sunday, Belafonte told Venezuela's communist-leaning President Hugo Chavez, "No matter what the greatest tyrant in the world, the greatest terrorist in the world, George W. Bush says, we're here to tell you: Not hundreds, not thousands, but millions of the American people ... support your revolution."
Yesterday, after the Children's Defense Fund luncheon, the legendary calypso singer told reporters his comments were an attempt to "stimulate curiosity that comes from particularly the press so that we may have some kind of public debate on issues that we very rarely hear from our side of the agenda."
Belafonte's comments were broadcast on the Fox News Channel, shown in this video clip provided by National Review's Media Blog
So when I make my remarks, they may stir up controversy," Belafonte continued, "but then it's time to talk about new definitions, new points of view."
The reporter then asked Belafonte, "Some (of your comments) are a little over the top, you must admit?"
"Over whose top?" he replied.
The reporter clarified that the comments were regarded as "pretty outrageous."
"Outrageous?" Belafonte exclaimed, adding, "of course" he was only being "truthful," not outrageous.
As WorldNetDaily reported, a black activist called Belafonte's meeting with Chavez and remarks about Bush treasonous.
Jesse Lee Peterson, founder of Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny, or BOND, said Belafonte's "hatred of President Bush is causing him to embrace America's enemies."
The Venezuelan leader's strengthening of ties with communist dictator Fidel Castro of Cuba has caused concern in the Bush administration.
Peterson called Chavez "a brutal, paranoid dictator with nuclear ambitions who wants nothing more than to destroy the U.S."
I don't think it is treason or that it is wise for us to call it treason when someone criticizes the President, even if we believe that the criticism is untrue and hurts the morale of the country and the troops.
We'll see if she gets close enough for a campaign picture?
Day light come and he just won't shut up.

Sean Hannity said it best on Fox & Friends this morning - Hillary Clinton was at a fundraising event with Belafonte and could have denounced his remarks... but didn't. Shows you where her loyalties really are - moderate my @$$.
"Sen. Hillary Clinton narrowly avoided political disaster yesterday by staying at least 15 feet away from Harry Belafonte at all times during the Children's Defense Fund lunch in the Rainbow Room. That, presumably, was a safe distance. "
Belafonte got what he was after; publicity. No one had heard from him for decades and banana royalties are slim.
"Violation of allegiance toward one's country or sovereign, especially the betrayal of one's country by waging war against it or by consciously and purposely acting to aid its enemies."
Speaking and acting are two different things. we have freedom of speech. We do not always have freedom of action.
It already happened and she didn't. She was smart enough to stay at least 20 feet from him at all times so no one could take a picture of the two of them together.
your definition is appreciated, however you must remember as mr belafonte has told you, new difintions are in order. come on, get with the times, multiculturalism, relativism, self esteem, indigenous peoples rights, all that stuff.
Wonder why Harry did bring a date, Cindy Sheehan?
That's right, sorry, I forgot.
The reporter then asked Belafonte, "Some (of your comments) are a little over the top, you must admit?"
"Over whose top?" he replied.
The reporter clarified that the comments were regarded as "pretty outrageous."
"Outrageous?"
Do you always answer a question with a question?
A question?
Yes, its really annoying. Do you want to explain your earlier comments?
My comments?
Yes, your comments. Are you always such an asshole?
An asshole?
Isn't it a fright when senility sets in?
I liked The Daily Show's take, something along the lines of "I don't think you can find millions of Americans who know where Venezuela is." They really ripped Harry on that episode.
Still, treason? No. Stupid, moronic, in bad taste? Of course.
And which agenda is this? Oh, you mean destroying the nation upon which all our children will have to depend? There's been a lot of outright morons in America in recent years but this old fool has completely surrendered his senses.

insisting he only was being truthful and was prompting the press to cover a "side of the agenda" it ignores.
Guess he doesnt read the NY Slimes or watch an alphabet network.
Meaningless. The only one that has meaning is
"Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court."And Venezuela isn't our declared enemy. The list of those tried for treason in this country is short, and all were for direct actions against the US or for giving secrets to or directly materially aiding our enemies. The one treason conviction I know of for making public statements beneficial to the enemy was "Tokyo Rose" (Iva Toguri D'Aquino), and that was questionable and later pardoned.
Thank you.
