Two problems, the Germans couldn't make enough of them to make a difference and the ME-262 flew so fast that they had to slow down in order to shoot at the B-17's. When they slowed down the US piston aircraft were able to defend against them. As a result, the main tactic was to zoom past the B-17's at 500 mph with cannons blazind and hope you hit something.

Correction.

The National Socialist could not make enough ENGINES for them. My dad remembers driving down the Autobahn and seeing revetment after revetment off the road with Me 262's without engines.

We bombed the ball bearing plants.

The cannons tended to kick the plane around a bit. At 500mph, you were possibly in for a flameout from the concussion of the 4 30mm's.

Anyway you look at it, you were going to be facing a dozen Allied planes for every Axis plane. Luckily, the Germans never completed their AA missiles.

Two other Me-262 venerable points: High speed meant low, straight, flat glide slopes for landing onto grass runways: P-51 would get them as they approached the airfield landing pattern because they didn't have height to maneuver, and had to line up for the runway a long way out.

Takeoff was slow until they got some altitude because the engines didn't spool up quickly. Many were shot up before getting to high speed/higher altitude.

Fuel (ALWAYS!) was a problem at the end: Not even enough fuel to train pilots, so beginners were killed easy.
