Worried that measures to limit smoking don't go far enough, Elk Grove Village officials are considering banning the sale of cigarettes, apparently the first time that has been seriously proposed in Illinois, experts said. Mayor Craig Johnson said the village would be hypocritical to consider a current proposal to restrict smoking in bars and restaurants without going after cigarettes themselves. "If we think smoking is so detrimental to the community that we should ban it, then we should think about a ban on selling cigarettes,"

I don't have a dawg in that fight..I smoked for 41 years..started when i was 14 and had a major heart attack at 55...have not smoked since then. Want to really bad some days, though.
Smoking didn't cause the heart attack...just all the good food we eat here. Smoking did, however, cause the enphyazema and c.o.p.d. to my lungs.
It does, however, gall me to see the goobermint going after a legal business, especially, when they are dancing in the streets over the monies they are collecting from that particular industry.

I agree with you. I just wish more would understand.....this is not about tobacco or smoking or even smokers.....it's about reality and it is going to come back and haunt the proponents of these measures because it won't stop here....unless this steam roller is stopped now and put in reverse.
If the cigarettes come into the town from outside the full faith and credit clause may hold.
It's totally disgusting what the Boards of Health and our lawmakers have done to the smokers.
Talking out of both sides of their mouths saying they want smoke free everything, yet they can't balance the state budget without taxing smokers over and over. I say it's high time the rest of the state population starts to pay!

I am sure they still get their share of state and county tax money from the sale of these items in other areas.

I'm not a lawyer, and I don't play one on TV, but-
There are 'dry' counties and states that ban alcohol, why is this different?

The torches and pitchforks have to come out. But I don't know at this point what it will take.
The lifestyle police have already won on basic mobility, booze, smoking, and housing choices and locations.
Now, they're working on food choices.
The future can be seen in Great Britain, where they have things known as Anti-Social Behavior Orders (ASBO's).

Same thing I was thinking. All warehouses and a VFW hall. Could be trouble, especially on a Fish Fry night.
When National Prohibition kicked in, the City of Chicago lost 25% of its yearly revenue of $32 mil when they lost the $1,000 saloon license fees (8,000 saloons). They petitioned Congress at least twice to allow "light beers and wines."
History repeats.
They can share space with people that smoke Marijuana leaves.
This is ridiculous! The damn lawmakers can't balance their state budgets without the taxes on cigarettes, so who is kidding who here?!
