New Chancellor comes to call (Germany´s Merkel meets President Bush)
Washington Times ^ | Robert Gerald Livingston

Posted on 01/12/2006 11:26:24 AM PST by Michael81Dus

Germany's new Chancellor Angela Merkel, due for a warm welcome in the Bush White House tomorrow, represents a new political phenomenon in her country. Her government embraces her conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) with their Bavarian allies in the Christian Social Union, and the Social Democrats, the first time such lineup in 37 years.

It is quite unlike its predecessor, the Red/Green coalition of 1998-2005, in which the ranks were filled with "sixty-eighters,"offspring of the 1968 anti-Vietnam War and anti-establishment student revolt, in whose new-leftist hearts dislike and distrust of America lingered.

Germany's relations with Washington have nearly always been better with CDU-run governments.

This is not essential for our security, especially since we´re surrounded from neutrals or NATO-partners

Trust me it is for your security too. Do you think you are immune to terrorists in Germany?

Well, he is an Arab. But he is innocent. N

According to WHO? What was he, an Arab, doing in Kabul? Afganies are NOT Arabs. Sorry but the suggestion that because a few MAYBE innocents are caught up in this that ALL need to be released is intellectually indefensiable. What was a German Arab doing in Afgranistan in Sept 2001?

No, I do not. I have learned the ability to disagree civilly and to listen to the other person's point of view. We used to do that quite a bit on FR. You might consider trying it.

He was released by the CIA!!! So he must be innocent. Or he would still sit in a Kabul prison, although he was kidnapped in Europe!

After 7 years he'll be back. Please elaborate. What do you mean by special treatment. And then give us a source for where you got your information.

But you can´t answer, can you? And can you explain how a troll can survive since December 2002 here with thousands of comments??

I will not sit still and listen to a "point of view" that slanders our military.

We used to have fewer trolls and liberals on FR, also.

Because unlike YOUR little band of a few hundred neo nazi or other people "belonging to a terrorist group", we face a terrorist group capable of waging acts of war against the USA. So, quit ducking and answer the question I posed to you. JUST WHO tries these people HMMM? What crime do we charge them with hmmm? Who represents them hmmmm? Who punishes them? What rules of evidence? Hmmm? Perhaps before you so arrogantly sneer about "Special" treatment you might want to actually THINK for even half a second how stupid it is to try and apply YOUR local standards to a GLOBAL terrorist organization armed with tanks, artillery, anti aircraft guns and missiles and all the paraphernalia of modern war. BTW, the Northern Alliance NOT the Taliban is the officially UN recognized Govt. The Tali-ban were NEVER an official Government of Afghanistan. Chew on that and THINK before your next response.

I´m sure that the proposal would be: release the POW after the war ends in Southern Afghanistan and the rest when they´re acquitted by a US court.

Trust me that if we emptied Gitmo tomorrow, the terrorists imprisioned there would be all over the world trying to as much damage as they possibly could to the "infidel" world. They don't even view us as humans. The world should be thanking us that we have..what?..400?..of those monsters in one place, though it is costing us a fortune to keep them alive and "happy".

Ever think that your WHOLE case is based on the ACCUSATION of the person? MAYBE the ACCUSATIONS are not true? Sorry but you are assuming the facts you have heard are true. HE claims he was kidnapped by the CIA. Proof????????

No, Germany doesn´t know referendums (Latin: referendi) on topics other than uniting states or replacing our constitution. So, the EU constitution will not be decided by the German people.

You´re right on that, and despite our national budget problems, we shouldn´t forget our security.

The irony is that those same terrorists would head straight for destruction of the poster who is defending their "rights!!!"

As for thanks, as the saying goes: No good deed goes unpunished..

se the POW after

Wrong answer. They are NOT POW's. A POW has to be a member of a unifomred Military engaged in lawful combat operations. Terrorist are not POWS. Another assumption on your part NOT based on facts.
