New Chancellor comes to call (Germany´s Merkel meets President Bush)
Washington Times ^ | Robert Gerald Livingston

Posted on 01/12/2006 11:26:24 AM PST by Michael81Dus

Germany's new Chancellor Angela Merkel, due for a warm welcome in the Bush White House tomorrow, represents a new political phenomenon in her country. Her government embraces her conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) with their Bavarian allies in the Christian Social Union, and the Social Democrats, the first time such lineup in 37 years.

It is quite unlike its predecessor, the Red/Green coalition of 1998-2005, in which the ranks were filled with "sixty-eighters,"offspring of the 1968 anti-Vietnam War and anti-establishment student revolt, in whose new-leftist hearts dislike and distrust of America lingered.

Germany's relations with Washington have nearly always been better with CDU-run governments.

The LAST thing we need is judicial control over anything. let alone Gitmo. Our judges think they are an exceptional class of superior beings, sent to guide us to the right results [as they see them], no matter what WE think, ignoring the fact that most of them get on the bench by nuzzling some ward heelers' buttocks. Don't like a law? Judges ignore them. Don't believe in punishment? Sentence a child rapist to 60 days so HE can get therapy. Feel constrained by the folks that wrote the Constitution? Make it a "living document" that only "Feelgood" Marshall, Earl "The Pearl" Warren, William "Zero" Douglas, "Empty" Souter, "Ruth "Vader" Ginsburg, Harry Blackmun and the rest of the lefties can "read" correctly. No! No judicial oversight. I'd like to get some useful intel. out of Gitmo.

He was released by the CIA!!! So he must be innocent. Or he would still sit in a Kabul prison, although he was kidnapped in Europe!

LOL! Sometimes prisoners are released to follow them. You know this guy and are sure he is innocent? Personally I would not want to live next door to anybody(muslim) who has been to GITMO and been released, no matter how innocent European press is pronouncing him.

Odds on, they knew each other.

It's very likely. Are they buried at Christs Church?

I don't know yet where they are buried. Do you know how I can contact that cemetery and found out if they're there? Thank you.

Excellent! Thank you SO MUCH for your help.
I never know where the next piece of the puzzle will come from.
You and others have been so generous and surprisingly helpful.
I hope to be able to help others in the same way.

Civilian prisons for terrorists, or at least trials for the Gitmo inmates that are not POW?

Are any classified as a POW, requiring having been the member of a countries standing army? I think not. Nor do terrorist(who go after mainly civilian targets) belong in civilian prisons.

Europe might want their terrorist in their civilian prisons, but Europe is just waking up to their islamic problem....we will see how sweetly Europe continues to treat islamic terrorist when things start to get very hot over there, and I do not mean watching 700 cars and a few churches burning one night, but the day they wake up to watch one of their sky rise buildings burning with 3,000 people trapped unable to get out watching them jumping to their deaths so that they do not burn alive, or the day muslims have taken over one of their schools causing the deaths of several hundred children.

Go ahead put you islamic terrorist into your prisons or release them into your general population, but do not expect to much sympathy Americans.

I think the Taliban can be considered as a militia.

I think not, by your own posting.

(b) That of having a fixed distinctive sign recognizable at a distance;

(c) That of carrying arms openly;

(d) That of conducting their operations in accordance with the laws and customs of war.

We used to have fewer trolls and liberals on FR, also.

Michael in not a troll but being European and listening to all the drivel spewed in the European press plus being patriotic to his own country at times makes him come across as one.

Of course he will defend Germany, but the only thing he hears about GITMO is the drivel spewed in the European press.

If he's NOT a troll, then why doesn't he just sit back and learn the truth about our country here on Free Republic. This is a golden opportunity for him to learn something to counteract the Euro-propaganda.

In order for the Taliban and Al Queda to be treated under geneva convention rules, they have to play my the rules.

Hiding under the guise of civilians and using women and children as agents of death, Targeting innocents intentionally and hoping for the most casualies you can inflict upon them makes them unlawful combatants, and they will be delt with as such by our military.

It is unfortunate that innocent civilians are swept up BECAUSE of Al Quedas refusal to follow the guidlines of the geneva convention.
But as you said, those innocents were released.
As to the matter of time they served while innocent? I lay that at Al Quedas feet.

Im glad Merkel won the election and I hope that we strengthen ties with Germany as well.
I dont wish to be offensive when I say, THe entire continent could use a dose of conservatism.
