New Chancellor comes to call (Germany´s Merkel meets President Bush)
Washington Times ^ | Robert Gerald Livingston

Posted on 01/12/2006 11:26:24 AM PST by Michael81Dus

Germany's new Chancellor Angela Merkel, due for a warm welcome in the Bush White House tomorrow, represents a new political phenomenon in her country. Her government embraces her conservative Christian Democrats (CDU) with their Bavarian allies in the Christian Social Union, and the Social Democrats, the first time such lineup in 37 years.

It is quite unlike its predecessor, the Red/Green coalition of 1998-2005, in which the ranks were filled with "sixty-eighters,"offspring of the 1968 anti-Vietnam War and anti-establishment student revolt, in whose new-leftist hearts dislike and distrust of America lingered.

Germany's relations with Washington have nearly always been better with CDU-run governments.

There is no "uniform", but one can argue about fixed distinctive signs recognizable at a distance. Plus, when there´re "irregular combatants", there must be regular, too.

No, no, we didn´t capture them, we didn´t keep them 4 years without a trial in a prison camp. This is your dirty business. You should get back to common sense, not we.

Name a war in which enemy combatants were released BEFORE the war was over.

You are fabricating a defense.

If their is a uniform. Post a picture of it.

You can't make up evidence.

Your effort at education is noble, but your friend is not open to it as he has bought the propaganda and doesn't want to risk his investment.

Oh, and he never had an answer to my question of what he meant by the "price" Germany has paid for having our troops based there. I guess they'll be glad to see our guys and gals leave, as we re-arrange our bases.

Tell me when I should read your links. It´s 0.30 am here, and I´m going to bed now. Yes, you´re at war. You call it like that, but you and I know that it´s not a war like fighting these Krauts or the Viet Cong. Europe and America differs on how to treat the enemy. We believe we shouldn´t give up our judicial rights, you do. Our way leads to injustice, because guilty people are acquitted (Mzoudi, Motassadeq), your way leads to injustice because innocents are (?? - at least: were) also imprisoned. I´d rather have our way, with some better judges... ;-)

My hands are clean, my heart is good. And I´m way more on your side than the average Democrat in your country, you just haven´t found out. See you on the board!

I hope it will. And, can you imagine how difficult it is to determine status?

Mine arrived in 1732 at the port of Philadelphia, from the Pfalz region!! They stayed a few generations in Pennsylvania --- the Pennsylvania Dutch -- then migrated over to Illinois, Iowa and Nebraska.

I think the most clear distinctive sign is the Decapitated head they carry under their left arms.

So they ARE POW?? The Geneva Conventions know POW (III) or civilians (IV). There´s no illegal combatant. Either you are a POW or you are not. In the latter case, you enjoy the rights provided by the GC IV.

You have one hell of a lot of balls talking about the European way of treating captured innocents.

Welcome to the new war. The enemy combatants serve only an ideology and NOT a country.

Europe and America differs on how to treat the enemy.

Yes. Appeasement doesn't work.

You still didn't answer in what war have enemy combatants been released from a prison camp before the war was over. You didn't answer because the answer is never.

My hands are clean,

Not as long as you call our military "dirt" or any other slanderous term.

You are the same as today's average "Democrat" in this country. Europe has been socialist for so long, you think that left is right.

If you were a seasoned FReeper, and if you were on our side, you would know we don't talk about "Democrats." They're DUmmies, DemoRATS!, and any other apt term. You are one of them.

BTW, what happened to all your FReeper friends...? Where'd they go?

Have you ever visited Eject, eject, eject. Bill Whittles site.

One of the clearest essayists I have ever read. Some of his writings have brought tears to my eyes.

The Geneva Conventions

Pertains to a specific COUNTRY and not to individual idealogues. Terrorists have no country.

NO country, not even yours releases an enemy before the war is over. These people serve NO country. ONLY an ideology. Your attitude is what gets innocent people killed.
