HAAAAAAAAAA! How predominate was Jimmy Carter or Bill Clinton or GH Bush or GW Bush before running for President? Prominence is NOT a good selling point for a Presidential Candidate. It will NOT be McCain. Not a hope in hell of winning the Republican nomination in 2008. McCain MAY win in the NE states, and Arizonia, he will win NO other Republican Primaries. He is DEAD to the base. As a potential Republican delegate and local party activist, I can tell you McCain has ZERO chance of wining the nomination in 2008. Republicans value loyalty. They LOVED the way Reagan stood by Ford in 1976, they will NOT forgive the many betrayals since 2000 by McCain. Not a chance.
-New Hampshire
-Arizona
-Michigan (thanks to Alan Keyes)
Massachusetts
-Vermont
-Rhode Island
-Connecticut (by a mere three points)
That's it!
If he thinks he can do better the next time around, after McCain-Feingold has been enacted, and he's stripped the CIA of the power to interrogate Islamic terrorists, then he's welcome to try.
I doubt he will carry Arizona.
What McCain can do is what Perot did in 92. McCain can run as a moderate with a Dem moderate as a VP. He will suck up the "I can't vote for Allen but Hillary is worse" vote and Hillary will win the Presidency with 45% of the vote.
The left will then say she won by the largest margin ever and she has a mandate.
