New Narnia movie on the way
To the surprise of many, The Chronicles of Narnia has ended up as one of the most successful movies of 2005. Since Lucas is done making more sequels to Star Wars (we hope), that means the 2005 blockbuster sequel mantel falls to Aslan.
Variety confirms that not only is a Narnia sequel happening, but its already moving ahead. Disney and Walden Media are already starting on a script for the follow up, to be based on the second book in C.S. Lewis classic fantasy series entitled Prince Caspian. The arent any director attachments to the project yet, and Andrew Adamson the director of Lion, Witch, and Wardrobe is not signed on for sequels. That doesnt mean they wont resign him to do more, but at the moment no one is confirmed.
In Prince Caspian, the children return to Narnia to discover that thousands of years have passed since they ruled the fantastical land. Their reign is now nothing but a distant legend, and the world under the control of a wicked king. Peter, Edmund, Susan, and Lucy must help a young prince named Caspian restore Narnias past.
Even with Disney eager to push ahead on their new cash cow, it may be some time before the film hits theaters, or even begins production
I found Prince Caspian to be the hardest of the Narnia books to get into. Horse and his Boy and Magicians Nephew--I can't wait for those!
Whoever in the Disney group that cast those kids in "Narnia" delivered a masterpiece of choice!!! In fact, the whole cast was outstandingly chosen. Well, I guess class always comes through. When I look at the revenues of Brokeback Mountain, Good Night & Good Luck, Syriana, Munich, etc., I laugh to all ends. These retard failure pictures alltogether can't reach $100M in revenue, but Narnia is at $250M stateside and about $250M internationally. I predict Narnia will end up with about $600M in combined revenue. The fudge packers and America haters are not having a good day!!!
These stories aren't on quite the epic scale of LOTR or even Harry Potter. I'd imagine they could be produced a bit more quickly. I hope to see three more movies at least -- Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and the Last Battle. If they can keep up the quality, I'm sure the box office sales will be there ... not to mention the DVD sales. I know I'll buy The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as soon as possible.
Good ones, but they don't deal with the Pevensies as much. I predict they'll stick with that line, unless the films do incredibly well. If they do them right, I'd enjoy all seven.
I was impressed with the ice queen casting
The tales are good for children, but as an adult Christian, I can see so much deeper into the sympology that the stories are outstanding!
But I wonder if you're right--they'll focus on the Pevensie kids. Lucy appears in Dawn Treador, and then they all appear in Last Battle. Am I missing any?
I think I liked Prince Caspian the best followed by the Voyage of the Dawn Treader.
bump for publicity
From the books timeline, Prince Caspian is after the war, so the kids would naturally have aged several years.
I'm holding out for "Voyage of the Dawn Treader." Imagine the dufflepuds!
They are all back for Prince Caspian, too.
Oh, absolutely. A delight at all levels.
They are all in a few chapters of "A Horse and His Boy" as well.
>>>I was impressed with the ice queen casting
Absolutely! She was both ugly and beautiful at the same time. She was perfect for that role though.
Ah, but they can always go back and do the non-Pevensie stories afterwards, since they can can use all-new actors for The Magician's Nephew, and they might be able to get away with re-casting Eustace to do The Silver Chair.
Do you suppose they are skipping "The Horse and His Boy" because of the aging of the actors, the "delicate" subject matter of the Calormenes (who are clearly allegorical of Muslims), or some other reason?
